- How Do Some People Not Get Acne No Matter What
By Anushka Sharma How Do Some People Not Get Acne No Matter What 15 April 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Hey there! Let's dive into the intriguing world of acne and why some folks seem to dodge it altogether. Acne is like that unwelcome guest who shows up uninvited, but while most people deal with it at some point, others breeze through life with clear skin. What's their secret? Let's find out! Blame It on the Genes: Yep, it's all in the genes! If your parents or close family members battled acne, chances are it might come knocking on your door too. But it's not just about inheriting a single "acne gene." Your genetic makeup decides how sensitive your skin is to hormones and environmental stuff, and how good it is at fighting off acne-causing germs. Hormones, Hormones, Hormones: Now, let's talk about those pesky hormones. During puberty, your body goes into overdrive with hormones like testosterone (yep, even girls have it!). These hormones love to crank up oil production in your skin, leading to clogged pores and zits. Teens often get pimples in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), while adults, especially ladies, might see them pop up around the cheeks and jawline. Sweat and Junk Food: Picture this: you're smashing it at the gym, but then, bam! Acne decides to crash the party. Sweat mixed with tight workout gear can create a cozy environment for acne-causing bacteria. So, wear comfy, breathable clothes and shower right after sweating it out. And when it comes to food, greasy, sugary, and fast food might be tasty, but they can also fuel acne. A balanced diet with lots of good stuff can help keep those pimples at bay. Stress Messes Things Up: Life can get stressful, right? But did you know stress can mess with your skin too? When you're stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol, which tells your skin to produce more oil. More oil means more chances for acne to crash the party. So, find ways to chill out, like deep breathing, going for a walk, or chatting with a friend. The Big Finish: So, there you have it! While some lucky ducks seem to breeze through life without a pimple in sight, most of us have to deal with acne at some point. But understanding why it happens and taking care of your skin can help keep those pesky pimples at bay. So, whether you're blessed with clear skin or fighting off zits left and right, remember: taking care of your skin is always a good idea! Is it encircled with stunning landscapes, pristine lakes, divine mountain peaks, and ancient castles? If yes, then Iceland travel should be a part of your bucket list. This magnificent island is lush with inexplicable natural beauty, mind boggling travel routes, and thrilling adventures, which alone makes it worth a visit. Now that it is on your bucket list, you must know that there are an extravagant number of places to visit in Iceland. And we have saved you quite a lot of time by rounding off the top 10 Iceland tourist attractions for your first ever trip! So, let’s not waste any more time and find out the best places to visit in Iceland on your first trip. Vatnajökull Glacier: Remember the place where Elsa and her sister (from the Disney movie Frozen) lived? Well, if you do then this is one place that will leave you awestruck. Vatnajökull Glacier is a world made of ice. It is best known for its mystical caves that are constantly shifting their existence from one place to another. Thus, it is advisable for the first-time visitors to hire a guide before entering this winter wonderland. This maze-like formation is Europe’s largest glacier and also covers more than 8% of the entire area of the entire country. Soak yourself in the adventurous vibe of this place and do not forget to click pictures! Best time to visit: November to March (during this time, the ice caves are stable and that makes your tour better) Reykjavik : One of the most popular Iceland tourist places, Reykjavik takes the credit for its whale watching tours. Remember Keiko from Free Willy? Well, the killer whale was captured in a camera in a marine site close to Reykjavik. There is a 90% chance that you will get to spot the giant creature during a single tour in the middle of the ocean. The ride to whale watching usually starts from Reykjavik’s Old Harbour and lasts for about an hour or so. Once you see the magnificent creatures, do not forget to capture them in your cameras. Pssst… Here's a tip for you, go for the ringside seat to witness the amazing phenomenon. This place is also flushed with quaint cafes, vibrant bars, and stunning restaurants. Once you return from the tour, make sure to stop by at some of them and enjoy local food. You can also witness the splendid Northern Lights from this place. Best time to visit: June to September. However, you can go whale watching at any time of the year. Blue Lagoon Hot Spring : There are numerous hot springs across Iceland but none of them are as spectacular as the Blue Lagoon. Settled amid the fairy tale setting of silica mud and jet-black volcanic desert rocks, Blue Lagoon is a must-visit place for first time visitors. Being the most popular spa of Iceland, Blue Lagoon encompasses warm and healing water full of minerals of the ocean, silica mud, steam stacks, and soothing vibes. People can book their own premium packages at the time of visit to the spa. There are various five-star hotels standing in the vicinity that also provide special spa packages at the Lagoon. Most common among these is the Retreat Hotel Spa, which provides a complete luxury experience to people—private pool, cold well, steam room, personalized morning yoga class, water therapies and messages, etc. Best time to visit: All year round. Grundarfjordur: The fishing village of Grundarfjordur will make you fall in love at the first sight! The serene houses, summer folk festivals, and the striking view of Mt. Kirkjufell standing amid the awe-inspiring waterfalls and meandering streams are enough reasons for you to stop by at this little hamlet. Another reason to visit Grundarfjordur is the Eyrbyggja Heritage Centre, which regularly exhibits the oceanic history of the town in a beautiful way. Grundarfjordur is located at a distance of 3 hours from Reykjavik and outlines the north coast of Snaefellsnes peninsula . The peninsula has been nicknamed as ‘Iceland in miniature’ and is home to the glorious Snæfellsjökull glacier. This twin-peaked glacier is resplendently surrounded by lava fields and three coastlines as it sits on the peninsular tip of a volcano. Thus, this adds as another reason for visiting the beautiful village. Best time to visit: All year round. Lake Myvatn : Located close to Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland, Lake Myvatn is known for its mystical formation that comprises a treasure of gems and flora of moss balls. Nature lovers find themselves at ease near and around this lake. One can also spot both indigenous and exotic species of birds during summer season as they form various formations in a single flight above the lake area. Another thing that makes this lake quite exclusive is its incredible geology. When looked from a distance, one will notice that the lake is outlined by pseudo volcanic craters that make the water body look quite mysterious. If you are a fan of Game of Thrones, then you must know that one of the most famous love scenes in the series was shot in this area. Grjótagjá hot spring is another major attraction found near this lake. It is carefully hidden in a cave in the lava field of Dimmuborgir. The field is so intense and sensational that it has come to be known as the Black Fortress. There are many other places to visit in this area. You will require a whole day to cover them all. Best time to visit: May to October Now that you know the best places to visit in Iceland to make your first trip memorable and one-of-a-kind, it’s about time that you booked your tickets to have an adventure of a lifetime! - India Is Finally Having A Major Fashion Moment
By Anushka Sharma India Is Finally Having A Major Fashion Moment 23 March 2024 FASHION Advertisement In the year of 2023. Mumbai lit up with the sparkle of Christian Dior's Autumn 2023 collection. It wasn't just another fashion show; it was a historic moment, marking Christian Dior's first-ever standalone show in India. The buzz reverberated across the internet, with clips flooding TikTok, Instagram, and beyond. When high-profile stars like Gigi Hadid and Zendaya adorned themselves in elegant saris, the message was clear: India had stepped onto the global fashion stage in style. For too long, fashion has been synonymous with exclusivity and elitism. While movies like "The Devil Wears Prada" may glamorize this image, it no longer resonates with today's society. Today’s society craves genuinity. Social media has democratized fashion, giving rise to influencers who speak directly to our hearts and minds. Fashion is no longer confined to runways; it's a conversation happening on the same platforms we use every day. And with that conversation comes a demand for inclusivity, diversity, and representation. We've made strides in embracing body and racial diversity, but cultural representation remains a challenge. Fashion is a universal language, yet its narrative has often been dominated by a narrow Western perspective. It's time to broaden that narrative and celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures that shape our world. Fashion should reflect the diversity of its audience, honoring traditions from every corner of the globe. In a recent event in London, Megha Kapoor, Vogue’s former India's Head of Editorial Content, highlighted a troubling trend. Content in Indian languages was deemed unfit for the world of high fashion, perpetuating a colonial mindset that devalues indigenous cultures. This attitude is changing, but it's a reminder that progress is still needed to break free from outdated notions of superiority. Fashion has always been woven into the fabric of my family's identity. From eagerly watching my mother adorn herself for special occasions to bonding over the choice of fabrics and accessories, fashion was more than just clothing—it was a connection to our heritage. This sentiment is echoed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the artistic director of women's at Christian Dior, who recognizes India's rich history in textile craftsmanship as integral to its culture. India's influence on fashion stretches back thousands of years, with its mastery of textiles dating back to ancient times. The legacy of the Mughal Empire infused Indian fashion with intricate details and exquisite embellishments, setting the stage for centuries of innovation. Today, as the fashion industry undergoes a transformation, India's heritage is taking center stage once again. Christian Dior's landmark show in Mumbai is more than just a fashion event; it's a testament to India's cultural legacy. Just as Fendi's show at the Great Wall of China sparked a renaissance in Chinese luxury, we can only hope that this moment will reignite interest in Indian fashion and history on a global scale. It's time for fashion to embrace its role as a cultural ambassador, celebrating diversity and heritage with every stitch and seam. - New York Fashion Week Fall Collection
by Akash Khatri New York Fashion Week Fall Collection 1 January 2021 FASHION Advertisement New York Fashion Week is one of the “Big 4” fashion weeks in the world and is held semi-annually each year in February and September. This year all the live shows struggled to follow their conventional path due to pandemics, New York fashion week was no exception either and for months fashion designers struggled to cope with the “new normal” but definitely came up with some amazing collection. As pandemic has changed the trend of fashion to some extent and with most of the people working from home, the New York fashion week showcased the basic yet chic versions of the clothing rather than going all hunky-dory and glittery. The main cause taken up by most of the fashion designers was “Sustainable fashion” that would protect our environment and in times of such crisis like we are in 2020, giving attention to the environment and global warming is essential. One off-putting thing that the New York fashion week missed is to witness a few of the famous designers participating in New York fashion week’s fall collection. Although looking at the brighter side, the absence of few famous and well-known designers created room for the new and younger designers to shine through. Few names that won heart in the New York Fashion Week fall collection of 2020 are: Marc Jacobs: He highlighted more of the basics in an old school way. A-line coats and Mini shift dresses were the major highlights from his collection. Marina Moscone: She is known for her minimalistic styling. However, she surprised everyone in the fall collection and came up with some sexy options for the evening, some suits, and even used leopard prints for gowns. Prabal Gurung: He expressed his New York fall collection as a love letter to the city which deeply is fascinated about fashion and colours. He showcased the love for glamour meticulously via suits to gowns to jackets. Khaite: She presented her collection as a tale of two women from two different worlds which blended so perfectly and did not even urge us to choose a side either. Such diligently worked collection. There were far too many talented designers who gave everyone major fashion goals and showed how fashion would probably look like in the coming year. Hope you guys have taken note of how suits, A-line dresses, and animal prints and evening gowns won heart at the fall collection in New York fashion week and would keep your wardrobe updated accordingly. - Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained
by Aishwarya Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained 9 December 2022 FASHION Advertisement Colour has a major role in our day-to-day life. Colours influence our mood and perception in life. They are an inevitable and important aspect of our lives. We buy clothes based on our colour liking, but the psychology behind it often goes unnoticed. Colour is the first thing that we notice, whenever consuming something. The concept of colour psychology plays a big role in the fashion design field. Now, you might be thinking what is colour psychology? Colour psychology is the influence of colours on the functioning of a person. It is a study of colours and their shades, to know more about our human behaviour. We get influenced by many things like perception, placebo, moods, nature etc. It is believed that our ancestors also used colour psychology as a therapy. It isn't a modern-day concept but, Egyptians, as well as Chinese people, practised Chromotherapy. This therapy included colour psychology, through which they used to heal people from their ailments. Colours have their own significance and meaning, and this is used in the design field to provoke a certain emotion. For example, red indicates bold and fierce, blue indicates calmness and loyalty and so on. Some colours are also associated with the calendar seasons. In the fall season, we tend towards shades of brown and orange, while in the winters we tend towards bright fun colours. The four primary colours- red, blue, yellow and green, is related to our mind, body and emotions. Let us see a few colours and how it affects our cognitive behaviour. Red colour indicates physical strength, warmth, energy, excitement and stability. In spirituality, it is the colour of the root chakra, the chakra that controls our existence and deep rooted knowledge. It is a dominant colour and is often related to defence, aggression and strain. Red should be preferred when you want to show power and warmth at the same time. Blue colour indicates intellect, communication, trust, logic, loyalty, calm and serenity. It is the colour of the throat chakra, the chakra that rules communication and our truth. It is also associated with coldness, aloofness, and unfriendliness. Blue colour calms the mind unlike red colour, which excites the mind. Blue can be worn for professional endeavours as it represents confidence and reliability. The yellow colour indicates optimism, creativity, self-esteem, extraversion and emotional strength. It is the colour of the Solar Plexus chakra, the chakra that rules the self, and the identity of the person. It is also associated with irrationality, fear, depression and suicide. The yellow colour has a long and emotionally stimulating wavelength to it. Yellow is considered to be the most active colour, psychologically. Violet indicates spiritual awareness, containment, vision, luxury, truth and quality. It is the colour of the Third Eye chakra, the chakra that rules intuition and higher perspective. It also indicates introversion, suppression and inferiority. It is considered that the people who wear purple are creative, insightful, and have an artistic approach. They are often mysterious and dreamy. The Grey colour depicts a lack of confidence, hibernation and depression. Grey is the only colour that has no direct psychological effects. The absence of colour makes it a depressing sight to see. It is a symbol of tranquillity, maturity and neutrality. It is difficult to define the characteristics of a person wearing a grey colour. The most loved colour, black depicts sophistication, glamour, efficiency and security. It also indicates oppression, menace and heaviness. Black is an absorption of all colours and doesnt depict a single characteristic of its own. Black creates an impression of importance and power. It makes the person to be taken seriously and respectfully. The effects of colours on our minds are more than we can ever imagine. So, the next time you choose a dress for yourself, make sure to know what you are looking to represent and then choose the colour. Choose the colours that you want in your life and, don't let the colours choose you instead. Colour psychology is the influence of colours on the functioning of a person. - An Uncontacted Island In India: North Sentinel Island
by Aishwarya An Uncontacted Island In India: North Sentinel Island 10 February 2023 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement In today’s modern world, we all look out for vacation destinations that are close to nature. Maldives and Mauritius are the two islands that will be there in your travel bucket list. What if we say that, there is an island that is banned for tourists? Well, if you were shocked knowing that, then let us take you through the most isolated island in the world; North Sentinel Island. North Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands, located in the Bay of Bengal. It is the part of the Andaman Islands that is voluntarily isolated by its residential tribe. North Sentinel Island is home to the Sentinelese people, who are indigenous people in voluntary isolation. We all love our solitude, but Sentinelese loves their solitude way too much. They are considered to be the only uncontacted tribe in the world. The island is not known to many and the Government of India has also banned tourism over there. Under the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Protection of Aboriginal Act of 1956, people are prohibited to visit this island. The North Sentinel Island is protected and looked after by the Government of India. Many attempts to visit this island have resulted in violence. There isn’t much information about the island and the government has decided to let them be isolated only. In 2018, the Government of India excluded 29 islands- including North Sentinel- from the Restricted Area Permit region, in an effort of boosting tourism. In November, the government stated that the relaxation of the prohibition was to allow researchers and anthropologists, with pre-approved clearance, to visit North Sentinel. The anthropologists are fascinated by this island as the Sentinelese have not been studied much before. They are violent with the visitors and hence, we don’t even know the exact size of their population. The relaxation of the prohibition was done in the hopes of knowing them and their culture, but the result of it was something different. We humans always have an attraction toward the unknown, and hence, many people traveled to the island illegally. In 2006, the death of two fishermen, Sundar Raj and Pandit Tiwari was reported. It is said that their boats drifted too close to the North Sentinel Island and the Sentinelese attacked them. In a similar incident, an American Christian missionary, John Allen Chau was killed in the year 2018. The case of John Allen Chau took over the news pretty quickly. The 26-year-old, John, invaded the island illegally, with the motive of spreading Christianity. He went there to preach to them about Jesus and was killed by the Sentinelese on November 17th, 2018. The boatmen who took John over there reported that he saw the tribe dragging John’s dead body to the shore. In the same fashion, in 2006, when Sundar and Pandit were killed, they were buried on the shore of North Sentinel Island. The government authorities excavated one body, with great difficulty, and handed it over to his family. The body of John is, however, not found. The officials have opened a murder case but have not arrested anyone yet. John’s diary also reveals that he knew he would die and he has made a statement saying “don’t excavate my body”. One of the most notable events between outsiders and North Sentinel happened in 1981 when the Primrose cargo ship struck a nearby coral reef- north sentinel is covered with coral reef- shipwrecking sailors for nearly two weeks. The sailors were also attacked by the Sentinelese, and it is also known that they used the ship's debris to make metal tools. There have been more than 11 such violent cases that happened on North Sentinel Island. It is believed that they have their language, Sentinelese. It is an undescribed language and due to the lack of contact, nothing is known of their language and its vitality. After the incidents of violence, India ceased visits in 1997. The first peaceful contact with the Sentinelese was on 4th January 1991. Triloknath, a director of the Anthropological Survey of India, and his colleagues were the first ones to have peaceful contact with them. He also says that the contact didn’t bring much of the secrets out, because they weren’t allowing them to reach them. One more miraculous fact about North Sentinel Island is that it survived the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. The Indian government sent some helicopters to see their situation and give them food, but the tribe attacked the helicopter and swayed off the government officials too. While the much-developed cities suffered due to the tsunami, the North Sentinel Island- covered by water on all sides- survived it. Maybe, that is the reason we say that nature protects us when we live with it in alignment. The Sentinelese tribe is known to be the last hunter and gatherer civilization to exist. The government has now banned any tourist visits, respecting their desire to be isolated. It is also said that they are not immune to the pathogens of modern society, which makes them prone to modern-day diseases. While we desire to explore every part of the earth, it is better to leave some of the places on their own; untouched, uncontacted and unknown. BLOB An island that remains uncontacted, unknown till the date. Let’s know about North Sentinel Island, an island that is nonetheless a mystery to the human race. This is a very important aspect of helping your skin be healthy for long, and with the right approach, you can build an effective skincare routine in less than 10 minutes that will leave your skin looking and feeling its best. Here's How To Do It: Know Your Skin Type: The first thing to know is whether you have dry, oily or combination skin. It’s important to know your undertones as well.
