- Embracing Darkness, Celebrating Light: Amjad Khalil’s Beyond Black Couture Collection
By Anushka Sharma Embracing Darkness, Celebrating Light: Amjad Khalil’s Beyond Black Couture Collection 4 September 2024 FASHION Advertisement In the heart of Tripoli, where the Mediterranean waves kiss the Libyan shores, a powerful narrative unfolds. Amjad Khalil , the visionary designer behind the AK brand, is set to unveil his sixth couture collection, “Beyond Black”—a collection that’s not just clothing, but a poignant reflection of personal loss, transformation, and the indomitable spirit of resilience. This Fall/Winter 2024 collection isn't just about fashion; it’s a narrative woven with threads of sorrow, strength, and rebirth. After losing both of his parents to cancer in 2022, Amjad found himself plunged into the depths of grief, a place where creativity felt distant and passion seemed lost. Yet, from this darkness, he embarked on a deeply personal journey—a journey that would reignite his spark and give birth to “Beyond Black.” The collection is a tribute to the emotional rollercoaster that many experience after the loss of a loved one. Each piece tells a chapter of this journey—from the overwhelming darkness to the gradual return of light. The 15 couture dresses and one bridal gown in this collection are more than garments; they are stories, each echoing a mood, a memory, or a moment from Amjad’s own life. From Shadows to Stardust: A Saga of Colors and Textures Amjad’s color palette is nothing short of a visual metaphor. He begins with deep, somber hues—blacks and dark metallics—accented by crystal teardrops that symbolize the profound sadness he felt. These initial pieces capture the raw, unfiltered emotions of grief. But as the collection progresses, so too does the color story, transitioning from the shadows of black to the shimmer of metallic gold, silver, and maroon, and finally to the soft pastels and luminous whites. The crescendo is a breathtaking bridal gown, representing the peace and light found at the end of the tunnel—a symbol of hope and new beginnings. The Art of Craftsmanship: Patterns and Fabrics that Speak Volumes Amjad’s approach to pattern-making and fabric selection further enriches the narrative. His use of curves and sharp cuts speaks to the inner conflict many feel after a significant loss, while the integration of new corset techniques symbolizes the strength that comes from within. Velvet, silk chiffon, organza, lace, and metallic fabrics are the canvas on which he paints his story. The richness of velvet conveys a sense of luxury and depth, while the delicate transparency of organza reveals vulnerability. Lace adds a touch of strength intertwined with elegance, and metallic fabrics inject a dash of boldness. The inclusion of stones and intricate embroidery, especially with Swarovski crystals, adds a final, sparkling touch—like teardrops that glisten in the light. A Collection with a Message: From the Heart to the World At Large Amjad Khalil doesn’t just want you to wear these clothes; he wants you to feel them. The “Beyond Black” collection is for every woman who has faced heartbreak, loss, or any dark period in her life. It’s a reminder that through creativity and self-expression, we can all find our way back to the light. This is more than just a fashion show—it’s an experience, a journey through the stages of grief and healing. Amjad invites you to join him on this journey at the grand launch event in Dubai on September 1st, 2024, during Dubai Fashion Week . Step into the darkness, emerge into the light, and discover the “Beyond Black” collection—a celebration of life, love, and the resilience of the human spirit. - Festival of Stones
by Neha Pande Festival of Stones 27 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Bagwal also known as DevidhuraFair is celebrated at Maa Varahi Devi Temple in Devidhura located at a distance of 45km from Lohaghat in the Champawat district of Uttarakhand. Devidhura also marks the tri-junction of Almora, Pithoragarh and Nainital districts and is famous for its rich cultural fair that is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm. This fair is celebrated every year during Rakshabandhan that falls on the full moon day of the month of Shravan. Thousands of people from Uttarakhand and Nepal come to visit this grand fair. Bagwal is celebrated by dividing four different groups, collectively known as ‘Khams’. The four groups are four different tribes – Gharwal Kham, Chamyal Kham, Lamgriha Kham and Valig Kham. The fair starts out with the worship of Goddess Varahi, after the worship Prasad is distributed and this is when everything gets a bit tricky. The members of each Kham position themselves on the four corners of the field of the temple and the priest commences the festival with the sound of the ‘shankh’/shell. Bagwal is no normal festival with just worship and joy but here the Khams are fighters who carry sticks, stones and a farra/shield for the fight. These fighters throw stones at one another while at the same time protecting themselves with the shield. It does not matter how wounded or injured they get, the fight does not stop till the priest concludes the fight with the sound of the ‘shankh’. While the fight is going on the rest of the attendees cheer their teams with fight drums, folk songs and folk dances. After the fight all the injured are treated with ‘bichchu grass’ ie. Urtica Dioca. The Myth behind the Bagwal festival:- According to the myth, there once was a tradition of sacrificing a man (Narbali) from the Kham each year to Goddess Varahi. On one such year, it was the turn of this old woman to sacrifice her grandson, with a heavy heart and mind full of devotion she prepared her grandson for the sacrifice. This touched the Goddess’s heart and she spared his life under the condition that an equal amount of blood should be offered to her. Since that day, Bagwal fair is celebrated by the people where the members of each Kham throw stones at each other in order to draw sacrificial blood for Goddess Varahi. Reason for taking this Cultural Fair :- The main reason I choose to write upon Bagwal cultural fair is because my hometown is in Uttarakhand and I also wanted to address the issue of ‘Bali’/Sacrifice. Sacrificing animals as well as people have been going on in our religion as well as many other religions since the dawn of time; from Mayan, Pagan, Hinduism, Muslim etc. Sacrifice or ‘Bali’ in Hindu religion has its own significance, it is symbolic of getting rid of 6 evil forces/enemies ie. Kama– Lust Krodha – Anger Lobha–Greed Mada– Pride Moha – Attachments Matsarya – Jealousy By the sacrificial festival of Bagwal the basic idea of sacrificing men or animals was stopped yet the sacrificial blood was spilled by the act of fighting and throwing stones at each other. Our culture and heritage is one of the oldest; yet, I wanted to showcase some of the flaws in it which have changed and evolved but are still there. In August 2019, 100 men got injured under 10 minutes while celebrating Bagwal in Champwant district, Uttarakhand on Thursday. Even though the human sacrifice was stopped yet, hundreds of people got injured which is not a small thing. This is just one small case, there are many more cases tied up to this festival. Even though there is a high court ban on the use of stones during the festival yet the locals seem to sneak in with stones while outsmarting the authorities.Even a lot of local authorities encourage this practice instead of putting a stop on it. I personally believe that the concept behind ‘Bali’ is not bad because every Dussehra we burn Ravan as a sign of victory of good over evil, just like that ‘Bali’ is the concept of sacrificing 6 evils to the goddess yet the literal concept of ‘Bali’ ie. To sacrifice a living breathing creature or to injure one another is completely wrong. God didn’t make us to harm each other therefore the literal concept of ‘Bali’ should be condemned just like the literal practice of Bagwal should be put to an end. The ideology, unlike the festival, should carry on and pass on from generation to generation. Bagwal is a beautiful festival from Kumaon, Uttarakhand which should be celebrated with joy and enthusiasm, without harming each other as the concept of Bagwal is beautiful just like the myth. Bagwal is the story of love and sacrifice therefore it should be practiced with love and sacrifice of our inner demons instead of throwing stones towards each other to draw out blood as a symbol. The festival is a perfect blend of folk songs, folk dances and folklores. And just like Bagwal our country has hundreds of festivals and practices with a beautiful story but an unlikely tragic execution. #MohaAttachments #Myth #6evilforcesenemiesie #Devidhurafair #Tribal #Regionalfestival #IndianMyths #Indianfestival #MaaVarahiDeviTemple #Bagwalfestival #MatsaryaJealousy #Champawatdistrict #KrodhaAnger #Shravan #Sacrifice #Culturalfair #Lohaghat #IndianRitual #Uttarakhand #LobhaGreed #MaaVarahi #KamaLust #Rituals #Bali #Khams #MadaPride #Rakshabandhan SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS

- The Journey Of Shilpa Joshi: A Musical Odyssey
By Anushka Sharma The Journey Of Shilpa Joshi: A Musical Odyssey 6 August 2024 COVER STORIES Advertisement Shilpa Joshi’s journey into the world of music is nothing short of inspiring. Her story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the importance of following one’s dreams, no matter the obstacles. Shilpa’s foray into music began in 2017, a seemingly late start by industry standards. Yet, as she reflects, "It's never too late to start anything which is beautiful and you love and satisfies your soul." With these words, she captures the essence of her musical journey—a path driven by love and a desire to nourish her spirit. While 2017 marked her professional debut with the song "Pehla Pyaar," Shilpa’s connection to music was deeply ingrained long before. Despite her father’s insistence on prioritizing education, her passion for singing remained unwavering. “My father wanted me to study first. His main priority was my studies. But when I was done with my studies, he was okay with me choosing my path. Music was my first love, so I chose that.” Shilpa’s early professional years were marked by her collaboration with Kunal Jaisingh, a popular face in 2017. Her debut song, featuring Jaisingh, gained significant attention, setting the stage for her burgeoning career. "It’s like a dream come true, considering that it started as a passion but ultimately became my bread and butter," she remarks. Her journey, however, was not without its challenges. Shilpa speaks candidly about the importance of manifestation and visualization in her life. “In 2019, I went through a major surgery and spent nearly a year and a half recovering. Even during those tough times, I found happiness within myself. My father always told me, ‘As long as you are breathing, live every moment fully.’ This mindset helped me find strength and purpose even in the darkest times.” Shilpa’s musical career has transcended borders, earning her a significant following in Pakistan. She attributes this unexpected success to the organic and heartfelt nature of her work. “I’ve received a lot of love from Pakistan. Followers often ask me to create new songs or covers for them. This love has been overwhelming and deeply gratifying.” The conversation also delved into the evolving landscape of the music industry, particularly the use of autotune . Shilpa offers a balanced perspective, acknowledging its role in enhancing music while emphasizing the importance of maintaining the raw, authentic quality of a singer’s voice. She says, “See, the other electronic instruments are tuned on 440HZ already. Our vocal notes aren’t tuned to that extent. In order to have a harmonious compilation between the two, the people tend to make the use of auto tune. It’s all about ensuring that it sounds better at the end of the day.” Looking ahead, she remains committed to her independence as an artist. She believes in the power of independent music and the freedom it offers. “Labels are good, but I feel that if your song has a message, it will find its path. Independent artists have their own shine. People will know you, and why not take that chance?” Social media, while a powerful tool, is not the cornerstone of Shilpa’s career. She acknowledges its benefits but also warns against its potential pitfalls. “Social media is not everything. It has both pluses and minuses. Numbers are not that important. For me, what matters is the authenticity and sincerity of my music.” With a lot of love for her family in her eyes, and her voice, her story is one of resilience and authenticity. Her journey underscores the importance of staying true to oneself and the transformative power of music. As she continues to create and inspire, Shilpa remains a beacon of hope for aspiring artists everywhere. “Music is love, and this is something you can’t explain or measure. It is felt in your heart.” Through her words and her music, Shilpa continues to touch lives, proving that with passion and perseverance, dreams can indeed become reality. - Home Ingredients That Dermatologists Swear By
By Anushka Sharma Home Ingredients That Dermatologists Swear By 19 June 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement In the quest for healthy and radiant skin, many individuals turn to home ingredients as a natural, cost-effective alternative to expensive skincare products. However, experts emphasize the importance of understanding the root causes of skin issues before adopting any home remedies. Consulting a dermatologist can provide valuable insights into your skin’s specific needs and help you avoid ingredients that may do more harm than good. Most dermatologists offer a guide on the home ingredients that are safe and beneficial for your skin, and those that should be avoided. Safe and Effective Home Ingredients That Dermatologists Love: Turmeric: Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Can be used in various forms: mixed with milk or water, as a scrub, or as a face pack. Helps achieve glowing, tan-free, and radiant skin. Aloe Vera Gel: Can be store-bought (check ingredients) or directly extracted from the plant. The latter is always better! Rejuvenates the skin and serves as a natural moisturizer. Effective in treating sunburn, cuts, and occasional pimples. Cucumber: Naturally refreshes the skin and reduces puffiness. Can be applied directly to the skin for a cooling effect. Rose Water: Acts as a toner and can be included in face packs. Cleanses and calms the skin, providing a soothing effect. Honey: Rich in antioxidants and possesses exfoliating, moisturizing, and skin-lightening properties. Can be used alone or mixed with yogurt, turmeric, olive oil, etc., for enhanced benefits. Raw Milk: Prevents wrinkles and hydrates the skin. Can be applied directly to the face for a youthful glow. Olive Oil: Excellent for dry skin due to its moisturizing properties. Can be used as a natural remedy for maintaining skin hydration. Coconut Oil: Repairs the skin’s outer barrier and has antibacterial properties. Effective in calming skin inflammation, promoting healing, and slowing down aging. Best suited for dry skin. Yogurt/Curd: Highly moisturizing and can be used alone or combined with honey, aloe vera, turmeric, or olive oil. Beneficial for hydrating the skin and providing a natural glow. Importance Of Diet In Skincare: Most dermatologists stress that skin care is not only about topical treatments but also about what you consume. A diet rich in certain nutrients can significantly improve skin health. Omega-3 Fatty Acids And Polyphenols: Found in fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds. These nutrients help maintain skin health and fight inflammation. Beta-Carotene Is Your Best Friend: Consuming beta-carotene-rich foods can eliminate pale complexion and protect against winter skin issues. Found in carrots, sweet potatoes, and other colorful vegetables. Never Forget The Importance Of A Balanced Diet: Incorporate ample servings of vegetables, nuts, fruits, and proteins like beans and legumes. A balanced diet strengthens the gut and combats inflammation, reflecting positively on your skin. While home ingredients can be a boon for skincare, it is crucial to use them wisely and in consultation with a dermatologist. Understanding the causes of your skin issues and knowing which ingredients to use can lead to healthier, more radiant skin. Incorporate these dermatologist-approved ingredients into your skincare routine, and complement them with a nutritious diet to achieve the best results. Remember, skincare starts from the inside out, and a holistic approach will ensure long-lasting benefits for your skin. - Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness
by Rupashree Ravi Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Actress, model, and television presenter Karishma Kotak is a well-known face in the entertainment industry. From Bigg Boss to acting in films to hosting the IPL, she has come a long way and has found her path in showbiz. She is also a huge health and fitness enthusiast. In today’s dynamic and ever-changing industry, Karishma Kotak is definitely an all-rounder. Such an industry with immense talent and competition can be difficult for the new generation to leave their mark. “I believe leaving a mark is a personal journey. I don't compare my success to anybody else. A successful Bollywood actress will look at Julia Roberts and think that they're not successful, but they are. I think the industry keeps shifting. Right now, I have done a movie called Ira and I've done a guest appearance in Shaad Ali’s Mister Mummy . But I didn't have this kind of work two years ago. If you're willing to work hard, there will be so many opportunities for you. If you're good, you can get that work. I don't know if I necessarily want to leave a mark on the industry. I'm just happy that I'm working.” When asked about her experience so far as an actress, she said, “I am very busy with anchoring and doing projects in-between. I'm just happy because I think as an artist, you just want to do good work so whether I'm anchoring IPL, whether I'm in Dubai hosting a T10 League, whether I'm doing a movie or shooting for a brand, I'm just happy to be given these opportunities. Because that's the best thing you can do.” Currently, Kotak is working on many different projects. She recently wrapped up the dark web techno-thriller, Ira, and will also be seen portraying a guest role in the film, Mister Mummy . The movie also stars Ritesh and Genelia Deshmukh. Kotak cites Penelope Cruz as her inspiration along with Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She mentioned that her favourite role so far was her guest appearance in Freaky Ali alongside Arbaaz Khaan, Sohail Khan, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. “It was a really fun opportunity. We got to shoot on this beautiful golf course in Pune. It was such a fond memory for me. Although it was just a short cameo, it was a lot of fun and I worked with a great team,” she said. Sharing her views on body shaming and body positivity, she said, “I think there's a lot of pressure on women to look a certain size and a certain way. And I definitely think social media has a huge part to play in it. People need to understand that a lot of celebrities go under the knife to meet unrealistic expectations. I believe if you lose too much weight, it ages your face, and it makes you look older. So, to look youthful, a little bit of plumpness on the face, and a little bit of collagen on the face are needed. There's no such thing as fault reduction. I believe you should learn to enjoy life, but in a balance.” Kotak also left an inspiring message for the younger generation and all her fans . “I think young women and men need to stop putting pressure on themselves to be a size zero or a size two or go on unnecessary keto diets or intermittent fasting. Everybody has a different body and their body reacts to things differently. What works for someone else will not always work out for you. So do the research. Take social media every day in small doses. Remember there's more to life than your weight and your health is the most important aspect. So, thank you to my lovely followers on Instagram and Twitter for following me and for your love and your kindness.” SEARCH Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness COVER STORIES Musings With Maryam Zolghadr COVER STORIES Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress COVER STORIES Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines COVER STORIES Ahsaas Channa Talks About Her Mother Being The Inspiration Behind Her Career COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma A Journey Of Transformation, Empathy, And Unwavering Passion With Jitin Gulati 11 October 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma Komica Anchal: A Journey Of Perseverance, Passion, And Possibilities 11 September 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma From Dream To Reality: The Rise Of Sameer Mark In The Fashion Industry 9 September 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma From The Silver Screen To Human Rights Advocacy With Award Winning Actress Sheena Chohan 21 August 2024 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement

- Most Colorful Cities In The World - why you should visit them?
by Priti Sharma Most Colorful Cities In The World - why you should visit them? 16 February 2023 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Color makes life better, and travelers may discover the world's most colorful locations while traveling. The world's most vibrant sites may be found in busy metropolises and unspoiled natural settings. International cities greet tourists with a dash of color, creating fantastic picture opportunities and vistas, from unique mural artwork to the brilliant colors of skyscrapers. What attributes make a city beautiful? It relies on a number of variables, including the environment, architectural style, cleanliness, tranquility, and population. Additionally essential to a city's remarkable beauty are the colors. The eight cities with the most color in the world are listed below. 1. Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada: The oldest incorporated city in Canada dates back to 1785 and is located in the province of New Brunswick. Saint John City is well known for its downtown row houses that are painted in vibrant colors. It is one of the city's most well-liked tourist destinations. Jellybean Row refers to the row of colorful homes in Saint John's downtown. According to legend, residents of Saint John's used to paint their homes in vivid hues to maintain their attractiveness even during foggy conditions. Every house on the street is painted a different color, as you can see. Your trip on the city's walking tour will undoubtedly be one you never forget. 2. Chefchaouen, Morocco: Due to its isolation, the Blue City of Morocco has been cut off from the outside world for over a millennium. But why is it that color? Depending on who you ask, there are several explanations for why the Moroccan town of Chefchaouen is blue. Some claim that it is because of Jewish mysticism, while others assert that the blue tones are a naturally occurring mosquito repellant since they are found in the hills where the town was established. Chefchaouen is one of the world's most colorful towns, regardless of why it is blue. 3. Bo-Kaap, Cape Town, South Africa: Bo-Kaap in Cape Town has a vivid past. The Dutch brought many slaves to Cape Town throughout the 16th and 17th centuries from Malaysia, Indonesia, and various African nations. The enslaved were referred to as "Cape Malays." Several homes were constructed in this region in about 1760 and leased to the slaves. Later, the former slaves acquired the homes and painted them in vivid hues to symbolize their joy and liberation. Cape Town's Bo-Kaap neighborhood is situated at the base of Signal Hill and is rich in history and color. This residential neighborhood is well known for its vividly colored homes and winding pathways made of cobblestones. These residences showcase a fusion of Georgian and Dutch architectural designs. 4. Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India: The second-largest city in Rajasthan, India, is Jodhpur, popularly referred to as "The Blue City." The vibrant blue-washed homes in the old town are the source of the city's name. India was decades ahead of Morocco from one blue town to the next, despite the fact that Jodhpur's blue colors had a less than happy history. Electric blue buildings were historically designated for the "higher classes" and were originally painted as a part of the caste system. The custom, however, gradually spread across the town, turning the ruins of the cobalt buildings into a genuine tourist destination as well as a useful remedy for the oppressive heat. 5. Willemstad, Curacao The capital city of Curacao, Willemstad, is renowned for being a city with a rich cultural legacy. Rich in history, both public and private structures exhibit vibrant and often very beautiful architecture. In fact, the city is home to 750 vibrant structures in all. Historic structures may be found throughout Willemstad, many of which are notable for their use of Dutch architectural design. These beautiful, colorful structures, which date to the 17th century, draw hundreds of visitors each year. 6. Burano, Venice, Italy: Burano's multicoloured mansions have an intriguing truth. In the past, Burano's primary source of revenue was fishing. The fisherman had trouble identifying their cottages throughout the winter due to the dense fog. So they made the decision to paint their homes a variety of hues. The coloring custom in Burano is thought to have begun as a result of this occurrence. Today, you can notice that Burano's houses have a specific color scheme. In Burano, there is a clearly laid out procedure for painting homes. Let's say you live in the village and enjoy painting your house. Sending the government a formal request should be your first step. They will notify you which color you are permitted to paint your home. Interesting right? 7. Busan, South Korea The Gamcheon cultural hamlet is the main reason to place Busan at the top of your bucket list for Korea, despite the fact that it nearly often takes a back seat to Seoul. One of the most "Instagrammable" locations on the Korean peninsula, and maybe the whole globe, is a hillside covered in vibrant dwellings that people frequently compare to stacked legos. If this is on your trip wish list, you must visit it. 8. Santorini, Greece: Two colors are likely to spring to mind when you think of the Greek island of Santorini: white, which is the color of many buildings' walls, and blue, which also serves as the color of the island's dazzling Ionian Sea and many of its roofs. The city of Oia's building facades really contain a variety of other hues, but because the blues and whites are so striking, it's simple to get distracted by them. Take your photos on a clear day at dusk, when the prismatic sky sheds its brilliant light over the darkening metropolis, to fully enjoy Oia's beautiful rainbow. These were a handful of the ones we chose, and we're confident they'll make you grin. Make it a point to visit these locations, and prepare to be surrounded by every color of the rainbow. Happy vacation!
