  • The Skill Of Ageing Gracefully: Secrets From The Land Of Longevity

The Skill Of Ageing Gracefully: Secrets From The Land Of Longevity By Rini Pathak The Skill Of Ageing Gracefully: Secrets From The Land Of Longevity 17 March 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Japan is one of the most futuristic nations in the world. It is a nation with a wealth of things to offer. The list is endless and includes things like modern washrooms, luxurious automobiles, and distinctive cultures. The icing on the cake are the Japanese ideas that change people’s lives for the better. In today’s hectic and fast-paced world, they are indispensable for achieving contentment and tranquility. After all, the life expectancy rate in Japan is the second highest. Surely, they must be taking some steps to achieve such results, right? So, today let us take a tour of Japan’s famous concepts (virtually of course) and understand how these concepts would let us live a happier and successful life which might be a reason for our longevity. IKIGAI: The words, “Iki” and “gai,” which were previously called “kai” and signify “life” and “value” or “worth,” respectively, are the roots of the term “Ikigai.” Originally, the goal of Japanese Ikigai philosophy was to discover one’s actual happiness. According to a contemporary perspective, it is a technique for locating one’s ideal job. By matching one’s passion with what the world needs right now, one may utilize it as a compass that informs one what they are destined to do. SHINRIN-YOKU: Shinrin-yoku, commonly referred to as forest bathing, is a practice that entails submerging oneself in the natural world and inhaling the scents of the forest. It’s thought to improve general wellbeing, elevate mood, and lessen stress. In today’s hectic and technology driven world, we hardly ever have time to disconnect from technological devices and the daily grind. Shinrin-yoku enters the scene here as a readily available, cost-free therapeutic counteragent. WABI-SABI: Do you frequently find it difficult to go on or begin anything new because your default setting is to strive for perfection? Then, the concept of Wabi-Sabi is perfect for you. Wabi-Sabi is the practice of reminding ourselves that nothing in this world is permanent and that striving for perfection is pointless, we must strive to appreciate its inherent beauty and make the greatest possible use of it. HARA HACHI BU: This idea originates from Okinawan culture, where it’s customary to eat until 80% full. In the culture, it is believed that people can prevent overeating and excessive calorie intake by stopping their meals before they are fully satisfied. Hara hachi bu is a technique that can lengthen life and assist in stopping overeating. This technique is thought to improve digestion, help people lose weight, and improve general health. MA: “Ma” denotes the idea of negative space, or the space between things, in Japanese terminology. It is the area that is often left purposefully vacant or uncertain in between things, factors, or times. Ma is the presence of potential and possibility as well as the absence of something. Ma is a refined practice in Japanese culture that enables one to reflect in silence. It improves one’s intuition and cerebral faculties and hence is a physical representation of spirituality. SHIKATA GA NAI: The Japanese idea of Shikata Ga Nai, also known as Sho(ga) nai, means relinquishing control over uncontrollable things. Shikata Ga NAi, which merely means “it can’t be helped,” exhorts individuals to accept circumstances or things for what they are. In other words, it communicates the idea of accepting the situation as it is and moving on without focusing on the things that cannot be altered. Therefore, it is clear from the article that including the above said ideas into daily living can improve one’s emotional, mental, and physical well-being, which will ultimately result in a more fulfilling and satisfying life. Let me tell you here that if you have the determination, discipline, and commitment to live a meaningful life, practicing them is simple. These Japanese ideas will give you the bravery, fortitude, and knowledge to handle any hardship with grace, and they will completely change your life for the better. • Do I feel pretty?

SOCIETY by Neha Pande Do I feel pretty? 1 September 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Do I feel pretty? Do I love my looks? Miniskirt or Salwar Suit, which one should I choose? A women’s life is scandalous and decided by the way she dresses or looks, it is the harsh reality of the women beauty standards where aesthetics is everything. A judgmental world where lipsticks are more expensive than books because that’s how the society is, isn’t it? Makeup, surgery and the way I “should” dress, publicised through all social media making young girls think they are to look a certain way. Society has made it a norm for women to dress pretty with makeup done neatly and not to dress tomboyish as it is impolite for a girl to be dressed in men’s clothing. Funny thing is it doesn’t even matter if she’s perfect with beautiful skin and a neatly dressed or if she is tom boyishly dressed with bad skin, it doesn’t matter the amount or makeup she has on or does not because the society still will judge, it will still try to nit-pick on whatever they can. You may think if she’s in a Miniskirt people will drool over her and if she is in a Salwar Suit people might call her a ‘behenji’; to that, yes, that might happen with our society falling into the tracks of western culture people might like the miniskirt and beautifully done makeup better but salwar suit has its own charm and will also invite a lot of spectators. But it doesn’t matter if it’s a Salwar Suit or a Miniskirt as the female behind it will still be criticized, as if her change in size or dressing has let everyone down. Her body is caged in reviews and views with titles on her as if she’s a zoo animal, shouldn’t she be allowed to dress however she wants? Shouldn’t she wear as much makeup as she wants or not? Society may change with feminist movements going around the globe, this mentality might change and till then all we can do is to stop asking the question about which one is better, Miniskirt or Salwar Suit because it doesn’t really matter as we all are passengers of the same ship which is headed by the captain called “Society” and we all are suffering the same from the same judgment as others. • Why Purchase a Ticket to Tokyo?

by Akash Khatri by Akash Khatri Why Purchase a Ticket to Tokyo? 1 January 2020 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Tokyo, one of the world’s most densely populated cities and the capital of Japan. Tokyo’s advanced reach towards new technology and high population has made it officially bag the title – ‘Tokyo Metropolis.’ Cherry Blossom, being the national symbol of Japan have their own aura and prestige. People await them in the month of April. Their presence is marked by the beginning of their long-standing tradition of welcoming Spring – called Hanami. This festival gives a beautiful message of appreciating the temporary beauty of nature. The youth of Tokyo express themselves on through street fashion. This alternative street fashion can be found in the Harajuku district of Tokyo. Each of the shops are independently owned. The self-owned cafes have a vibe of their own. All these factors come together to give this street a unique and trendy look. The usual streets of Tokyo present comfort to the travelers in the form of vending machines. Vending machines are available in Tokyo at every twelve-meter distance. Be it hamburgers, clothes, beverages, candies, ice creams or milk packs; everything is available in these magic pockets! Another famous running street of Tokyo is called Tsukiji. Tsukiji is a wholesale fish market. It’s a huge magnetic for all the sea-food lovers. Every morning at sharp 5 o’clock, live tuna auctions are the main attractions. It also attracts the tourists and free tickets for visitors are available to the public every morning at 4am. A city which has so much to offer, is so densely populated and attracts millions of tourists. This makes the city known for its extremely busy public transportation. Shinjuku station is the largest and busiest railway station in the world. It offers service to average of 3.70 million passengers each day. A dream spot and yet another reason to visit this beautiful city is the famous Tokyo tower. Inspired by Eiffel tower, it was finished in 1958. When talking of dreams, let us imagine Disney land of the U.S. Tokyo Disneyland was the first park outside the U.S. Another rewarding destination is Mount Takao, the most visited mountain in the world. On the other hand, Mount Fuji is only visible 80 days a year! Also, Tokyo is home to some of the most expensive and acclaimed restaurants world-wide. Aragawa, a renowned steak restaurant is in the basement of an office tower in the Shinbashi district of Tokyo. One of the best reasons for a non-vegetarian food lover to travel in Tokyo is to try new dishes and relish exquisite meals which are available nowhere else. Equally best reason to visit this city is to shop and save on tax. A passport allows one to shop tax free. Roam around freely and peacefully as Tokyo is one of the safest cities to travel to. • International Men’s Day

SOCIETY by Akash Khatri International Men’s Day 1 December 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Every year on 19 November international men’s day is observed like the women’s Day on 8th march. The only difference is that many people don’t even know this day exists. And questions like ‘In a man’s world why is a MEN’S DAY needed?’ are often asked. The idea of a Men’s Day was first written down by American Journalist, John Harris in 1968. He wrote about how we have a day for women, but not one for men. In 1993 Thomas Oaster, the director of the Missouri centre of men’s studies, invited organisations to host small events for men in the USA, Australia and Malta. This event was held in February for 2 years but then after the second year, due to the poor attendance, he ceased organising an event. Malta still continued to hold an event in February. In 1999, this day was revived by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh. He realised that even though there was a day for fathers, there was no day celebrated for men who aren’t fathers or who areyoung boys and teenagers. He started celebrating this on 19 November; the day of his father’s birthday and the day a local soccer team had United his country with their endeavours to qualify for the world cup. The International Men’s Day aims to promote positive aspects of male identity based on the premise that men might respond more constructively and lead to positive role models that tend to negative gender stereotyping. The day does not intend to compete with the International Women’s Day, but to highlight the importance of men’s physical and mental health and positive masculinity. It is also an opportunity to recognise men who don’t fall into traditional manifestations of masculinity and also gay, bisexual and transgender masculine non-binary people. Malta had still been celebrating Men’s Day in February; but in 2009, they started celebrating the day in November Moreover the objectives are focusing on men’s and boys’ mental health, highlighting positive male roles. Men may also express the discrimination against them at home, workplaces, public places or in general. It is not uncommon that so many men feel pressured to put up a strong and tough front, and not to show any emotions. Because, “men are not emotional”; “men don’t cry.” Just like women, men face discrimination too. The reason we don’t hear so much about men being discriminated against is that most men don’t speak up against it. It can be very serious in some cases. But men are very less likely to discuss their experiences. And most men don’t have an example of someone speaking up; so they don’t know if they can call it discrimination; and even if they can, to speak up or not. The major problem is that men, from a very young age, since they are small boys, are told to “man up” and to deal with their problems “like a man.” Men face discrimination when they don’t fit into stereotypes about their gender. Men who are sensitive, show emotions, or do not act so-called “masculine,” are often criticised, taunted, commented on and asked to behave more “like a man.” While we work to protect women, let’s acknowledge that sexual harassment of men is not a joke either. There are increasing instances of men being on the receiving end — from being a target of comments heavy with sexual innuendo to being stalked — men are supposed to be ‘men’, they are to take all of this in the spirit intended, and not feel uncomfortable and/or complain. The Six Pillars of Men’s Day are: To focus on men’s and boys’ mental and physical health. Enhancing Gender Relations. Promoting Gender Equality and well being. Focusing on discrimination against men. Promoting positive men role models. Helping in creating a safer and better world People fail to understand that men, just like women, are diverse, too. I’m pretty sure when we hear the word MAN, a lot of us imagine a masculine, not too expressive, strongly built… man. And when some guy shares his emotions, is more affectionate and delicate- he is judged? This is what builds up to “toxic masculinity.” And that’s what leads to an unspoken pressure in a boy’s mind; right from a very young age, forcing him to make himself fit into THAT definition of what a man is. • How Young Is Too Young For A Skincare Routine

By Anushka Sharma By Anushka Sharma How Young Is Too Young For A Skincare Routine 24 June 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement In today's beauty-conscious world, the question of when to start a skincare routine for young children often sparks debate among parents, dermatologists, and skincare enthusiasts alike. While some argue that introducing skincare early instills healthy habits, others caution against exposing young skin to unnecessary products too soon. So, how young is too young for a skincare routine? The consensus among dermatologists leans towards simplicity and necessity when it comes to skincare for children. Babies and toddlers generally have delicate skin that is more sensitive to external influences. Their skin barrier, responsible for protecting against irritants and infections, is still developing. For infants, less is often more. Gentle cleansers and moisturizers specifically formulated for baby skin are usually sufficient to maintain skin health. As children grow older, around the age of five or six, environmental exposures increase with outdoor play and school activities. This can lead to dirt and sweat buildup, making a gentle cleansing routine more relevant. Dermatologists typically recommend a basic regimen that includes a mild cleanser and moisturizer suitable for young skin. These products should be free from harsh chemicals, fragrances, and unnecessary additives that could potentially irritate sensitive skin. When puberty hits, usually between the ages of eight and thirteen for girls and slightly later for boys, hormonal changes trigger increased oil production and the potential for acne. This transitional phase often prompts parents to consider more targeted skincare routines involving products designed for acne-prone skin. However, dermatologists caution against aggressive treatments and instead advocate for gentle formulations that balance oil production without stripping the skin of essential moisture. The cultural and societal pressures around beauty and skincare can also influence parental decisions. In some communities, skincare rituals are deeply ingrained from a young age as a form of self-care and hygiene. However, experts advise against unnecessary complexity or introducing products with active ingredients like retinoids and exfoliants too early. These potent ingredients are generally more suitable for mature skin and can cause adverse effects on developing skin cells. Ultimately, the decision to start a skincare routine for a child rests with their parents or caregivers, guided by dermatological advice. It's essential to prioritize skin health over cosmetic concerns and to tailor products to individual skin needs rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. Consulting with a pediatric dermatologist can provide personalized recommendations based on a child's unique skin type and any specific concerns. In conclusion, while there is no definitive age at which every child should start a skincare routine, a balanced approach emphasizing gentle care and age-appropriate products is crucial. Early education on basic skincare habits such as sun protection, gentle cleansing, and moisturizing sets a foundation for lifelong skin health. By fostering healthy skincare practices from a young age, parents can empower their children to take ownership of their skin health while respecting its natural development. Navigating the delicate balance between protection and prevention is key in addressing the question of when to start a skincare routine for children. By prioritizing simplicity, gentleness, and informed decision-making, parents can ensure that their child's skincare journey begins on a foundation of care and consideration for their developing skin. • Norway’s Impressive Art Of Recycling

SOCIETY by Anushka Singh Norway’s Impressive Art Of Recycling 27 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Norway, the country of enthralling natural beauty, is excelling the art of waste management. The kingdom of Norway has come up with ideas worth adopting and has positively brought the entire conception of the three R’s into play. While other industrialized nations still scuffle, at an alarming rate, with the consumption of problematic plastic waste, Norway stands out by managing to recycle up to 97% of its plastic bottles. The country is breaking ground in scrutinizing all the aspects of waste supervision techniques by implementing a nationwide bottle deposit scheme. Recycling technology has come a long way since the earliest vital investments in the sector. Anything and everything can now be recycled; paper, plastic, metal or an entire house. Through an organization called Infinitum, the Scandinavian country has established itself as the most effective of all by designing the best environment-friendly modes of recycling plastic bottles. While other countries are still in the process of forming a good stable model for recycling plastic trash, Norway sometimes imports trash to keep its recycling process going. What makes Norway awe-inspiringly different is the way it has given recycling a value it never had and this value is what makes the companies and consumers walk on the righteous path to conserve our environment. Their radical approach is based on a loan scheme implying that when a consumer buys any plastic bottle, they are charged an additional amount of money equivalent to about 13 to 30 US cents which can be redeemed in discrete ways. The buyer can either take the plastic bottle to one of the several thousand ‘reverse vending machines’ present in public spaces like schools and supermarkets which returns the money after scanning the barcode of the deposited bottle or they can return them in shops and gas stations in exchange of money or store credit. Also, the plastic producers in Norway are subject to an environmental tax and almost all of them have signed up for the bottle deposit scheme. Hence, the more plastic they recycle, the lesser their tax is and on reaching the target of recycling over 95 percent of total produced plastic, they don’t have to pay at all. The four-container system Apart from having the world’s most effective plastic recycling plans, Norway also has an intricate system that the locals have been taught since childhood. The Norwegian recycling idea also involves a colour coding system. The coloured bins and bags are basically to help people decipher what type of waste goes where. There are green, blue and white bins in0 some places and plain bins that take the specific green, blue and white waste in others. The food and organic waste should be dumped in the green bin/bag, all plastic packaging in blue, paper or cardboard related waste in white and lastly, the electronic or hazardous waste in the red. Being one of the most systematic countries, Norway has remained unbeaten in maintaining a sound lifestyle for its citizens. And the Norwegian system of waste management is definitely giving the rest of the world a brilliant blueprint by proving that with the right tech and proper awareness, we can take big steps to have a trash-free future. #NorwayRecyclingTrashWasteWastemanagementPlasticPlasticbottlePlastictrashPlasticrecycling SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS

  • Five ways to make your commute enjoyable

Five ways to make your commute enjoyable by Aishwarya Five ways to make your commute enjoyable 4 November 2022 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Commuting to work is one of the most universally despised of all the things that give us tension and anxiety — a heavy workload, financial difficulties, and a cluttered home, to mention a few. During the pandemic, millions of people were able to forego long commutes in exchange for a short stroll to their computers. Now that firms are bringing remote workers back to the office, the prospect of dealing with rush-hour traffic or crowded public transportation can leave workers mentally and physically exhausted before they even leave the house. Let’s see five ways to make your daily commute more enjoyable. Discover Something New: Do you have to keep your eyes on the road? Look for audiobooks or podcasts in your field. "When I started a new job, it required some different skills, so I listened to audiobooks about topics like leadership and agile methodology," says Juliya Margolin, a director of product development at Prudential who commutes by car from Brooklyn to the company's headquarters in Newark—a trip that takes at least an hour. Seek advice from coworkers or mentors, and embrace learning on several platforms. "Audio is a terrific method for me to diversify how I consume information," explains Margolin . "I read on a computer most of the time." Listening allows me to immerse myself in a subject in a new and enriching way." Change Your Travel Schedule: Instead of attempting to navigate New York City's peak rush-hour traffic from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., Margolin leaves her Brooklyn home at about 8:30 a.m. and arrives at work in less time and with significantly less stress. Despite her later start time, she arrives at a respectable 9:30 AM. "My team is more concerned with getting things done than with face time," Margolin explains. "Some days, I have to come in for 8:30 or 9 a.m. meetings, but I'm flexible when necessary and utilise my judgement as to which meetings are critical." Margolin follows the same technique after the day, departing a little later, after 6 PM, to avoid the 4:30 to 6 PM traffic jam. Make a plan: Experiment with different driving routes and commuting days and hours. Take note of peak traffic times and plan your route accordingly. Plan your commute to the workplace on off-peak days and hours if you have the option of working a flexible remote or hybrid schedule. You can also cut your commute time by avoiding peak hours. After work, run errands, go to the gym or business fitness centre, or join a recreational sports team near your office. You'll get some workouts and maybe even meet some new people! Bring snacks: Don't drive hangry! If you're hungry or thirsty in the afternoon, a traffic standstill is much more annoying. Keep protein snacks or bottles of water in their trunk or your desk drawer at work for a quick pick-me-up before getting behind the wheel. Reduce screen time: Most of us already spend a significant portion of our day staring at a screen. If you take public transportation, try taking a break from your screen. Non-digital material such as a book, magazine, or even an old-fashioned crossword puzzle might help you work other areas of your brain and minimise fatigue. To calm your thoughts, listen to a podcast, music, or relaxing sounds. During the pandemic, millions of people were able to forego long commutes in exchange for a short stroll to their computers. #Commute #Travel #Work #DailyCommute #Audiobooks #Tips #Lifestyle SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Sakshi Batra Mood Indigo 2024: Humourfest - A Night Of Laughter And Wit 4 February 2025 LIFESTYLE By Aarti Singh Taarangan 17: A Frolic Of The Nation's Symphony 27 December 2024 LIFESTYLE By Aarti Singh Taarangan 2024: The 17th Symphony Of Dreams 20 December 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma From Dental Drills To Instagram Thrills: The Journey Of Mekhala Bawsay 16 August 2024 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement
