  • A Brief History on Alexander McQueen

by Akash Khatri A Brief History on Alexander McQueen 1 January 2021 FASHION Advertisement If you are fond of premium fashion labels and well aware of the high-level fashion brands then you must be well acquainted with the Alexander McQueen label. The first genuine curiosity for the ones who are not familiar with this name would be who is Alexander McQueen? Alexander McQueen was a famous British fashion designer who brought a revolution in the fashion industry with his rebellious fashion innovations back in the 1980s. He got himself in the fashion industry quite early in his life but soon his flamboyant and out-of-the-box and bold fashion styles brought him under the spotlight. McQueen’s early runway collections developed his reputation for controversy and shock tactics with trousers aptly named “bumsters” and a collection titled “Highland Rape”. These collections had also made people from the Brit fashion industry cringe, but eventually, his talent prevailed, and he became known for his dramatic and extraordinary fashion shows and cat-walks which were sheer head-turners for everyone. He was also one of the first fashion designers who worked with Indian models in London. Some of McQueen’s accomplishments included being one of the youngest designers to achieve the title “British Designer of the Year”, which he won four times between 1996 and 2003 also he was into a partnership deal with the Gucci group and his own label which he founded in the year 1992. By the end of the year 2007, McQueen had his own fashion house established in the cities of London, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, and Las Vegas. Coming to his personal life, he was gay and quite vocal about his sexuality and he never hid anything from the world. But in his later life, he became addicted to drugs and even was depressed. In February 2010 he hanged himself in his home in London and left the entire world in shock and remorse. His psychologists said that he was into depression for three years consecutively and as an escapade, he was into heavy drugs. At the time of Alexander McQueen’s death, he had an eighty percent finished Autumn/Winter collection. 16 pieces of this collection were presented during Paris Fashion Week on 8 March 2010 as a tribute to this great fashion designer. • Going Green, One Stitch At A Time

by Anushka Sharma Going Green, One Stitch At A Time 24 April 2023 FASHION Advertisement Isha Nabar’s sense of fashion is eternal, because it is ethical. The very multi-talented fashion designer “Isha Nabar” uses a variety of hand stitched techniques on the hand woven fabric of khadi to do her bit for the betterment of the environment. Isha , an accomplished fashion designer of Indian origin, is based in New York and commenced with her multi-disciplinary learning at the Parsons School of Design, New York. Her niches of interest included fashion, business and jewellery design, the knowledge of which has actually given her quite an edge as a designer. Her much discussed initiative, ‘Charkhara’ (colloquially translated as wheel - 'Charkha' and green - 'Hara') is based on the design of a sustainable garment that is completely hand-stitched, through the usage of a hand spun fabric that is ‘Khadi’. This fabric, constituted of natural fibre, has played a significant role in the cultural, political, and socio-economic past of the country as many of us know. It was introduced by Mahatma Gandhi during the colonial rule in India, when he himself spun the yarn on the wheel to instil a sense of self-reliance amongst people. Khadi is since then spun on the ‘Charkha’ (the spinning wheel on which the yarn is hand spun.) The Charkha, with 24 spokes, which is also present on the Indian flag, is a symbolic representation of the hours of the day and the value of time. Taking this forward, Isha’s garment has 24 unique joinery techniques which beautifully acknowledge the efforts of those who spin the wheel painstakingly for 24 hours a day. The key intention behind this initiative is to avoid the use of machinery altogether in order to make a truly sustainable garment. She has therefore innovated these non-intrusive and hand crafted joinery systems of a wheel and a coin - a ‘paisa’ (equivalent to a penny) to construct the entire piece. One can spin the wheel to adjust the fit of the garment, while pulling closer the coin. The ‘paisa’ is meant to be a reminder of the minimal wages of the artisans. Isha explains “With this project, I hope to raise awareness on the khadi fabric, the negligible pay of the khadi artisans and the laborious process of hand spinning this fabric.” She wants to increase its perceived value and shift the mind-sets of the audience to more conscious consumption for a greener tomorrow. By using a hand woven fabric like khadi, along with specialised hand stitched techniques, she brings to the forefront the possibility of a process that is entirely sustainable in not only producing a garment but also in its end use. Her thoughtful and intentional design now lends the wearer the possibility of draping the exquisite Khadi fabric in multiple stunning and fashion-forward forms of outerwear. Isha’s design is disruptive, shows brilliance in its concept, is innovative and most importantly, has a deep emphasis towards responsible fashion. In a complex and evolving industry, ‘Charkhara’ is a conversation starter and clearly representative of her unique and novice design ideology, which is going beyond the mere aesthetics and functionality of fashion. It also explores the realm of sustainable material development and empowers the artisanal communities. Isha’s superlative skills, technical expertise and intelligence is well displayed in the complex joinery system which holds the fabric together. The final outcome was an outstanding, one-of-a-kind couture piece, born from the harmonising generational heritage with some unmistakably luxurious silhouettes, whilst carrying a profound message. This collection stays true to the roots of Khadi, thus retaining its rawness and presenting itself as an exhibit that is earthy and tonal. “The fabric itself is so well-worked, I wanted to let it shine and give it the stage it deserves” Isha tells us. There is nothing more captivating in fashion than the synergy of a sense of play and a purpose, which Isha has exuded graciously! She brings a point of view to the table that is rare to come by. Ironically maximizing a sense of purpose within a minimalistic framework, ‘Charkhara’ tells a story of rich artistry in a way that repositions the Khadi fabric with refinement and finesse. Isha is internationally recognized for her distinctive skills and ingenious design thinking, resulting in her bagging the AATCC Foundation Jasani Textile Scholarship and being a finalist for UK’s Creative Conscience Award. Isha has also worked with fashion houses like Tanya Taylor, Oscar de la Renta and Derek Lam in New York and Masaba and Vogue in India, giving her global exposure and fuelling her creativity as an artist. She is a new age designer to watch out for with her aesthetic sensibilities, critical thinking and views on a greener tomorrow. And she believes in getting there one stitch at a time! • The Curious Case Of The Body Shop

By Anushka Sharma The Curious Case Of The Body Shop 14 March 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement If you’re in the mood to grab some goodies from The Body Shop , now would be the right time to do so! The recent announcement of The Body Shop's closure of 75 stores across the UK has sent shockwaves through the retail industry. With 489 jobs on the line, the repercussions are significant, especially in the current economic climate. The decision to close these stores comes as part of an administration process, aimed at stabilizing the business and ensuring its long-term sustainability. Joint administrator Tony Wright emphasized the necessity of swift action to right-size The Body Shop's UK portfolio. While these measures may seem drastic, they are essential for the brand's future viability. Despite the closures, 116 stores will remain open in the UK, signaling a strategic restructuring rather than a complete withdrawal from the market. The administration firm FRP, overseeing the process, has outlined a plan that focuses on optimizing the brand's product offerings, strengthening online sales channels, and refining its wholesale strategy. This shift reflects a broader trend in the retail landscape, where traditional brick-and-mortar stores are adapting to meet evolving consumer preferences. The decision to close stores and cut head office jobs is not unique to The Body Shop. It reflects a broader trend in the retail industry, where companies are reevaluating their business models in response to changing market dynamics. By streamlining operations and focusing on core strengths, brands can position themselves for long-term success in a competitive marketplace. The Body Shop's challenges extend beyond the UK market. Recent reports indicate closures in other regions, including Germany, Belgium, and Ireland. These developments underscore the global nature of the retail industry and the need for brands to navigate complex regulatory environments and consumer preferences in multiple markets. In addition to store closures, The Body Shop is facing legal challenges, as evidenced by the recent ruling in the Netherlands. The court found the brand guilty of copying skincare products from competitor Rituals, ordering compensation for damages. This case highlights the importance of intellectual property rights and the consequences of infringing on competitors' trademarks. Despite these challenges, The Body Shop remains committed to its mission of promoting ethical and sustainable beauty products. The brand's legacy and reputation for social responsibility continue to resonate with consumers worldwide. As it navigates this period of transition, The Body Shop will undoubtedly leverage its strengths to emerge stronger and more resilient in the future. In conclusion, The Body Shop's decision to close stores and cut jobs reflects a strategic effort to streamline operations and ensure long-term viability. While these changes may be challenging, they are necessary for the brand to adapt to evolving market conditions and consumer preferences. By focusing on its core strengths and values, The Body Shop remains poised to thrive in the competitive retail landscape. No matter what, this is a sad situation for the ones who love the brand and its products! • 8 Teenage Girl Fashion Ideas For Your First Date

by Yashi Srivastava 8 Teenage Girl Fashion Ideas For Your First Date 11 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Imagine this. You are finally going on your first date, and you have so many outfit ideas hovering inside your brain. From make-up to hair to footwear and your attire, there is so much to do and prepare for, right? But if you worry about your ensemble, when will you revel in the excitement of going on your first date? Well, this is the part where we step in. Even though there is no doubt that you will wear something swoon-worthy on your date, we want you to make (read-create) a fashion statement! To help you with the same, we have curated a list of some spectacular fashion ideas that not only scream style but also whisper class. Check these ideas below and let us know how you like them! 1. Throw in the colors According to many stylists, the best colors to wear on a date are black, blue, red, and white. While we agree with them, we want you to experiment with many yellows, oranges, and greens. For example, how about exhibiting this bright yellow skirt with a floral yet funky slim jacket and casual white top? You can match the same with super-chic sneakers or black heels as well. Extra points for leaving your hair open and carefree with those stylish shades and minimal make-up. If you like this combination, you would love this printed dress that encompasses countless colors that are vibrant in every sense of the world. Pairing this dress with either loose hair or a relaxed fishtail would give you a look with this feminine dress. The look will quadruple your style statement if you wear heeled boots in a shade of brown. You must, however, always choose to wear shoes that you feel comfortable there. You got the idea, right? 2. Keep it simple but sexy Many teen girls don’t appreciate the idea of garnering too much attention on their first date. It is quite understandable since you are only breaking into the dating world. So, it is excellent to keep it soft, supple, and straightforward, but to make a statement of your own; you have to make it all sexy. So, how about this gorgeous combo of a brick-red halter top and linen high-waisted black skirt? It is simple, comfy, and subtle with a touch of sexy, and that’s precisely how you would like it! With this pairing, you can make a loose plait or twist and fold your hair while letting them go wherever they want. To add a pinch of calm, you wear converse with visible socks or classy flats, peep toes, or simple heels to go with it. Here’s another idea for you to bring sexy with your simple! All you have to do is get your hands on a grey or a dull-brown fit and flare dress and fuse it with a lace shrug. You can also accentuate the look by wearing thin-rimmed glasses with elegant earrings, a pretty necklace, or a choker. An elegant anklet won’t hurt when paired with casual chappals or flats. 3. Monotone Aesthetic When nothing makes sense, go mono! In other words, you can never go wrong with a monotone dress, co-ed, or whatever keeps your vibe flowing. For example, check out this gorgeous all-pink bodycon dress coordinated with silver-rimmed black sunglasses. You can choose the shades that go well with your face and leave your hair open, clip them up, or go for a loose bun. Now the footwear could be anything from flats to wedges to heels and even white Nike sneakers to go with it – you will look spectacular in any of those! About the make-up part, we’d tell you to choose dark and smoky eyes with nude lipstick, and you would blow their minds! 4. Class it up with layers! Every young girl knows how classy it is to ensemble your fashion statement in layers and how challenging it is to pull them off on your first date! If you want to do it right, here’s another idea! Our pick is this shoulder tunic blouse blended with a stunning corset belt. Wear khaki trousers or regular jeans for the bottom, and you will be good to go! We believe you can go for sneakers or stompers with this one, but many girls would love to wear elegant flats with flowy trousers or so! With this one, you can add charm bracelets, hoop earrings, a nose pin, or a watch. Minimal make-up with nude lips is undoubtedly the way to go with! Not to forget, a messy or top bun would amp up this look, but we believe it is eventually the style you feel most comfortable in! 5. Black is the color of all seasons Finally, a fashion idea all teenagers will agree on! Black, and it is, by all means, the color of every season in all fashions! So, what would be an ideal black fit for a perfect date night? Let’s start with this easy and comfortable fit that you can quickly put together – a casual black top paired with a long pleated skirt and sleek black belt that adds extra oomph to the entire ensemble. Your whole aura would scream with a new class genre when paired with ankle-length and high-heeled boots - bonus points for carrying this look with pixie-cut, Harry Potter’s dark-rimmed circular glasses, and dark lips. Since we are talking about the color of all seasons, it would be only fair to add ideas to your wardrobe. So, let’s go for a look that would work breathtakingly well on a winter night. You must get a body-hugging top and wear it with black tights or skinny-fit jeans with knee-length black boots. The charm of this outfit would be an Italian wool-mix jacket, and you would be good to go! We recommend red lipstick to go with the look since it will make you glow under the moonlit night. How about throwing a woolen scarf around your neck as well? The choice is yours, by all means! 6. Elegance goes a long way, even as a teenager! Whether you are 18 or 30, elegance will never leave the building! So, we decided to suggest some simple yet impressive ways to carry your grace where ever you go – especially if it’s the first date of your life! Here is an example of the same. Dirty blue full-sleeved lace top tucked in a dark blue maxi skirt. Let’s not forget the white-rimmed tinted sunglasses that add adventure to the entire fit! Trust us; you won’t go wrong with this one. Go ahead and add your style to your hair or choose between free-flowing locks or a braided bun and rock the whole look with a stiletto in your choice of color. When talking about elegance, we certainly cannot leave this look behind. This gorgeous black fit crop top and cut out mustard skirt is thus far, our favorite look for teenage girls going out on their first date. Don’t forget to amp the look up with those breathtaking dangler earrings and stilettos. Leave your hair open and put on pastel shades of shadow with heavy mascara and liner. You can leave the lips nude or a shade of pink and you would be good to go! 7. Cute girl casuals As a teenager, perhaps the most comfortable fashion statement would be to wear a pair of jeans with a white t-shirt and style your hair in a ponytail, and that’s it. Well, you are right, and it’s precisely what we expect you to do! Here’s the look for you! You can also pair up a little white dress with a leather jacket and black boots with no make-up and no accessory look. Trust us, and this won’t be your only date with them. Check out the look below. 8. Funky girl forever No matter the age, you must always channel the inner funky girl whenever the situation demands! And so, if you want to dress up with funk and blue and all that jazz on your first date, we’d say go ahead with it and make them wonder if they deserve you! For the funky girl fashion, here’s how we would dress you! The cut-sleeved faux fur gilet highlights this entire look but looks better when fused with a cream-colored - chanderi silk skirt. Let’s not take our eyes off the stunning leather boots that bring a suaveness to the entire look. Since you are a teenager, we would also recommend a no-make-up look for this look, but surely you can add a glittery eye shadow and heavy mascara on the eyes with this. Conclusion When it comes to style, there is no right way. It is always about the fashion you are comfortable carrying with confidence, class, and elegance. So, don’t worry if you think you cannot pull off particular looks like other girls – you are beautiful in your way. So, keep looking for your perfect look might be around the corner! Fashion for teenage girls shouldn't be just about clothes and style but also confidence, class, and smile. Blob - So, you are excited about your first date but have no idea what to wear on a particular day? Don’t worry; we have covered you with these eight stunning fashion ideas exclusively for teenage girls! The good thing is that each of these fashion statements is unique and different so that you can choose the ones that suit your personality the most - simple, monotones, vibrant, black, funky, elegant, classy - you name it, and this list has it! • Origin of Pasta: The Ambiguous Kitchen History

by Aparajita Jaiswal Origin of Pasta: The Ambiguous Kitchen History 7 July 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement One of the many wonders of the world happens to be the origin of pasta. Pasta became an increasingly common sight on restaurant menus all across the globe, but the Italians’ love affair with pasta has a long, complex, and passionate history. While we do think of pasta as a culturally Italian food, it is likely the descendent of ancient Asian noodles, or is it? Let’s find out! Nothing says Italy like its food, and nothing says Italian food like pasta. Pasta is integrant part of Italy’s food history and immaculate culture. Wherever Italians immigrated they have brought their pasta. Pasta happens to be the staple food of traditional Italian cuisine. All kinds of pasta is made of milled wheat and water and sometimes enriched with vitamins and minerals. Italian spaghetti is typically made from durum wheat semolina. Unlike other ubiquitous Italian products like pizza and tomato sauce, which have a fairly recent history, pasta may have a much older pedigree, going back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. While unraveling the long and often complex history of this delicious and finger licking dish, we have to look at its origins and some of the myths surrounding it. Very often we come across the enduring myth, based on the writings of the 13th-century explorer Marco Polo, that pasta was brought to Italy from China, rose from being published in the ‘Macaroni Journal’ by the Association of Food Industries. Some may have also learnt that Polo’s was not a discovery, but rather a rediscovery of a product once popular in Italy among the Etruscans and the Romans, a common misconception that Marco Polo introduced pasta to Italy whereas in truth, the dish had already existed in Europe for centuries but there’s little doubt he made Westerners aware of many Chinese inventions. Italian pasta enthusiasts organized a World Pasta Conference in 1995, they celebrate Word Pasta Day every year in October, since 1998. There is also an Italian Pasta Association and a Pasta Museum in Rome. History of pasta: drying pasta toward the beginning of the 1900 There is indeed evidence of an Etrusco-Roman noodle, called lagane, made from the same durum wheat used to produce modern pasta. Lagane is where the modern word lasagna originated from. However this type of food, first mentioned in the 1st century AD, was not boiled, as it is usually done today, but oven baked. Ancient lagane had some similarities with modern pasta, but cannot be considered quite the same. The country will have to wait a few centuries for its most popular dish to make a further culinary leap forward. Like so much of southern Italian life, the Arabic invasions of the 8th century heavily influenced regional cuisine. Today, the presence of Arabic people in the south of the peninsula during the Middle Ages is considered the most likely reason behind the diffusion of pasta. Early pasta making was often a laborious, day-long process. How these early dishes were served is not truly known, but many Sicilian pasta recipes still include typically Middle Eastern ingredients, such as raisins and cinnamon, which may be witness to original, medieval recipes. This early pasta was an ideal staple for Sicily and it easily spread to the mainland since durum wheat thrives in Italy’s climate. Italy is still a major producer of this hard wheat, used to make the all-important semolina flour. By the 1300’s dried pasta was very popular for its nutrition and long shelf life, making it ideal for long ship voyages. Pasta made it around the globe during the voyages of discovery a century later. By that time different shapes of pasta have appeared and new technology made pasta easier to make. With these innovations pasta truly became a part of Italian life. However the next big advancement in the history of pasta would not come until the 19th century when pasta met tomatoes. Although tomatoes were brought back to Europe shortly after their discovery in the New World, it took a long time for the plant to be considered edible. In fact tomatoes are a member of the nightshade family and rumors of tomatoes being poisonous continued in parts of Europe and its colonies until the mid 19th century (check the history of tomato here). Therefore it was not until 1839 that the first pasta recipe with tomatoes was documented. However shortly, thereafter, tomatoes took hold, especially in the south of Italy. The rest of course is delicious history. Pasta was considered a dish for the wealthy, taking pride of place in aristocratic banquets during the Renaissance. Pasta in America Early Spanish settlers were among the first to bring pasta to America. Believe it or not, it was Thomas Jefferson that helped give pasta an initial push into popularity. During an extended stay in Paris from 1784-1789, Jefferson ate what he called macaroni… back then, the word could have referred to any shape of pasta. He enjoyed the dish so much that he returned to America with two cases in tow. When his supply ran out, he sent for reinforcements via a friend from Naples. The first industrial pasta factory in the US was built in Brooklyn in 1848 by a Frenchman. Pasta Today Pasta was originally solely a part of Italian and European cuisine. With an increase in popularity on a worldwide scale, pasta has crossed international borders and is now a popular form of fast food and a staple in North America and elsewhere. This is due to the great amount of Italian immigration into Canada and the United States around the beginning of the 20th century. Similarly, the immense immigration of Italians into South Africa ensured that spaghetti with meatballs became an essential part of South African cuisine. The art of pasta making and the devotion to the food as a whole has evolved since pasta was first conceptualized. Several things that have changed drastically over time are the flavorings added to pasta. Sweetness has been replaced by savory, sugar swapped out for vegetables, which helped make pasta a nutritionally complete dish. Pasta is so beloved in Italy that individual consumption exceeds the average production of wheat of the country; thus Italy frequently imports wheat for pasta making. In contemporary society pasta is ubiquitous and individuals can find a variety of types in local supermarkets. With the worldwide demand for this staple food, pasta is now largely mass-produced in factories and only a tiny proportion is crafted by hand. • Aakanksha Singh, the Runway 34 actress talks about Self-Love and Self Upliftment

By Aparajita Jaiswal Aakanksha Singh, the Runway 34 actress talks about Self-Love and Self Upliftment 6 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Aakanksha Singh, who made her film debut with the Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt -starrer Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) , before turning her attention down South, is back in the Bollywood fold. She will be seen playing a pivotal role in Runway 34 , featuring Ajay Devgn , Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh . In a candid conversation with Aparajita Jaiswal, the actress talks about her experience so far in the film industry. Aakanksha Singh discerns that it is definitely a difficult job to leave your mark on the film industry. She recognizes that it is not only a challenge to leave your mark on the film industry but any field for that matter. “I feel that with so much of competition and so many good actors to compete with you. I feel that you have to be really good in your content and your craft. You have to keep updating your craft, you have to keep learning and with every project you have to prove yourself,” she persists. “The audience is really very smart. They like to see good content and good actors and it definitely is a challenge to give them what they want to see. So I would say that yes it’s difficult but it’s not impossible and if you are good I think that the audience will love you. Perhaps it may take time but it is not impossible at all.” “My journey so far as an actor, has been so good. I’m really grateful that I’m living my dream and I’m doing what I love. I’m very fortunate and grateful that I’ve got an opportunity to be in this industry and to be an actor. If I see my graph I would say that from here on I would really want to explore more and do more and more work and I always believed in quality rather than quantity.” The actress says feeling rather proud of the wonderful work that the movie-goers have been fortunate enough to see. “I’m really very proud of all my work and from here on out I really hope and wish that I’ll get more opportunities to perform better and to showcase my talent more.” Aakanksha Singh is making headway into the industry with warp speed as she is expected to release multiple new projects in the coming few months. The actress is excited to reveal her new project, a south anthology film, which is releasing on OTT very soon. Another one of her projects, an originally Telugu series, Parampara, dubbed in 7 languages including Hindi, is expecting its second season to release in July. Aakanksha plays 3 different age groups in a new Hindi series which is expected to be announced soon. “There are so many actors I look up to,” Aakanksha says. “But if I had to choose one name, I would say, both nationally and internationally, Priyanka Chopra . What she has done for herself and she really made our country proud. So, anyone who is dreaming to make it big, she is an inspiration and it’s amazing to see where she is at right now.” Aakanksha Singh is a true inspiration for those of us constantly worrying about where life will take us. “For me it is very important to live in the moment and I always try to live in the present. I am really enjoying the kind of projects I’m doing and the opportunities I’m getting. I don’t know where it will take me but the work satisfaction I’m getting is more than enough and I feel like if my work is good and if the audience is liking me, definitely it will take me somewhere. Nobody can plan that and I don’t plan my future. I go with the flow and I am just enjoying the process and without even thinking what will be there for me tomorrow.” Aakanksha Singh talks about the ease with which she slipped into the character that she played on screen for the movie Runway 34 . She felt right at home with the character. “I would say easiest of all was runway 34 . My character Samaira Khanna was easiest to slip into of all the characters I have played. It was not only just the character but the environment that I shot in. It was smooth and everything was in place. I feel that as a team, we enjoyed working together. So yes, that was the easiest character I feel, without any hesitation, I just slipped into.” Aakanksha Singh talks about her favourite character amongst all the ones she has played so far. “There are two short films, and both the characters are really close to my heart. One is Methi ke Ladoo where I played Radhika and the other one is Kaid. Both the characters were very complex to play, I would say. As I said, the easiest character was runway 34 Samaira Khanna but these two characters were really difficult to portray because there were so many complex emotions and I really enjoyed that.” The actress shares her views on Body Positivity and Women Empowerment. “I feel women empowerment and body positivity is much too correlated. I feel that it is very important for a woman to be empowered with the education and with a sense of self-worth. It is very important to accept yourself as you are. When it comes to body positivity as well, it is very important for us to accept ourselves and also accept others; the way they look and the way they are there. There should not be any judgement passed over. You have to be very comfortable in your skin. Recently I stated in one of my posts as well, how much I love myself. Initially I was not very aware of how I was not putting myself on the front foot but now I have realised it is important to love yourself, to work on yourself and to love the way you are. So I think it is very important to accept the fact that everybody is different from one another, and female empowerment also comes when you lift each other. One female can lift the other and they can cheer for each other. It is very important to know the importance of education and take your own decision in your life. I think the two are correlated as we talk about both being empowered and body positivity. One thing which plays an important role is the self-confidence that we have. It is very important to have that and we need to love ourselves.” Aakanksha Singh talks to the young readers of the magazine and says, “Life is too short so enjoy each and every moment of your life. Just be there, wake up, show up and love yourself as much as you can. Because the only thing which will stay with you is your body and your mind. So train your mind to be a healthy mind, be a healthy body, love yourself and just go for whatever you would like to do and whatever you love just to do. Don’t resist, don’t think much about what will be there for you in the future. Live in the present and just go for it!” SEARCH Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness COVER STORIES Musings With Maryam Zolghadr COVER STORIES Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress COVER STORIES Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines COVER STORIES Ahsaas Channa Talks About Her Mother Being The Inspiration Behind Her Career COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Komica Anchal: A Journey Of Perseverance, Passion, And Possibilities 11 September 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma From Dream To Reality: The Rise Of Sameer Mark In The Fashion Industry 9 September 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma From The Silver Screen To Human Rights Advocacy With Award Winning Actress Sheena Chohan 21 August 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma The Journey Of Shilpa Joshi: A Musical Odyssey 6 August 2024 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • SITTING = DANGER!

by Akash Khatri SITTING = DANGER! 1 October 2020 LIFESTYLE Advertisement We belong to the “Tech Age” where the magic happens at the tap of a finger. It has made our lives easier but it has led us to a sedentary lifestyle, everything good comes with a hidden bad. You’ll be sitting in a beautiful bubble of procrastination while others will rejoice the finishing prize of the race. “Sitting is the new smoking.” It’s an addiction which develops slowly and silently. While sitting down all day may seem harmless, you may be surprised by the negative impact it has on your health. Especially in the recent decades, the population has become increasingly sedentary, with many adults spending 70% or more of their waking hours sitting. Research suggests that only 21 per cent of adults are meeting the physical activity guidelines, while less than 5 per cent perform 30 minutes of physical activity per day. The American Academy of Pediatrics counsels parents to limit children’s screen time—television, DVDs, and video games—to no more than 2 hours per day. You never realize the presence of the “Sitting disease” unless you have foes disguised as family knocking on your front door. There is Mother Obesity, Father Cholesterol, Brother Stroke and Sister Diabetes; who will eventually tuck you to bed, in a cosy casket for eternity even before you realize. Research published in 2010 proves that there are several adverse effects such as: Low energy expenditure Slower metabolism Cardiovascular diseases Compromised posture Back and spine injuries Reduced social skills Loneliness or depression Metabolic Syndrome Chronic Pain ………. to name a few. Another study analyzed data collected over 15 years and found that sedentary lifestyles were associated with an increased risk of early death regardless of physical activity levels and mental health disorders. Stare at a donkey long enough and it also looks beautiful. Time flies fast but goes by faster while binge-watching three seasons straight of “Friends”, driving across the city, finger-licking the last pack of fiery Cheetos, typing the never-ending presentation your boss asked you, writing those thousand-page assignments, finishing the last bottle of Pinot Noir in the cellar, scrolling through posts of people turned bakers and artists or by simply staring at the whitewashed walls. It doesn’t matter if you sit but whether you get up or not. Fixing this might seem like gargantuan efforts at first but it’s all worth it at the end considering the welfare it gets along. Start with something simple initially. Walk to the grocery store instead of ordering it online, who knows you might meet a school mate along the way. Take the stairs instead of waiting for the stuck lift. Get on those running shoes and watch the beautiful sunrise, I promise it will be worth it. Start gardening – who wouldn’t want to wake up to a beautiful inflorescence. The American Heart Association considers general gardening to be in the category of moderate-intensity physical activity. Get up and walk around during television commercials. Invest in a standing desk at the workplace. Every drop makes an ocean. So go clean your messy rooms, organize your wardrobe, sweep those floors, put the clothes out to dry, hear the cuckoo sing, catch up on your Mom’s gossip, experiment in the kitchen and watch your family turn into food critics, make life long memories with your siblings, call those long-forgotten friends, read something new, learn the unknown, reorganize, experiment, invent – EXPLORE THE NEW “YOU”. #diabetes #stroke #obesity #workplace #walk #cholesterol #fixing #smoking #Sittingdisease #alarm SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma From Dental Drills To Instagram Thrills: The Journey Of Mekhala Bawsay 16 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Juggling Two Worlds: The Inspiring Journey Of Kritika Goel 16 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Kanchan Serai: Balancing The Skies And The Spotlight 15 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Nikita Pawar: From Fashion Design To Digital Stardom 15 August 2024 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • How To Organize Your Wardrobe

by Prarthana Rohatgi How To Organize Your Wardrobe 16 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Expression is important. The human race has excelled in expressing itself with symbols like the car we drive, the literature we consume, or the clothes we wear. For some people, Fashion is a means of self-expression; it depicts our identity differently. The colors we wear, the style we choose, etc. Organization of your closet means a lot, like organizing your identity. Watching tik tok and vlogs for ideas or as a good sport is easy and fun, but doing the work is intimidating. If you need help and wondering where and how to begin, we've got a guide for you. 1. Declutter: The first step to organizing anything is to declutter. Empty your wardrobe. Clean every nook and corner. Think of emptying your closet like a cleanse. Someone clumsy might find various items you've lost over the years. Earrings that went missing months ago, shoes you have never worn, bags you don't remember owning, or clothes you have been searching for. Organizing anything is impossible if all the objects aren't present, which is why cleaning is essential. Cleaning brings with it some difficult decisions. What to keep and what not to. Tough, thoughtful decisions have to be made. Donate or discard items that you no longer need. Repurpose other items if you can. 2. Categorize The next step is categorizing. Categorizing is for convenience. Every person can have a different preference. Categorizing by seasons. Having easy access to seasonal clothes in regions with extreme climates, like those of the temperate region, can be very convenient Categorizing by color: This makes your wardrobe aesthetically pleasing. There is nothing more satisfying than having a color-coordinated closet. Categorizing by Style: Casual, sports, party, or traditional. Instead of having them all mismatched. Placing them in order helps you find them faster. If you're a last-minute dresser, this will make things easier. 3. Maximise space To maximize the storage of your closet use storage solutions like hanging organizers, shelf dividers, or boxes. Make sure to choose solutions that fit your specific needs and the dimensions of your closet. Make use of vertical space. Install additional hanging rods to maximize the use of the vertical space in your closet. It can help you store more items and have easy access. Once you have cleaned and organized your closet, only one thing remains: Maintaining your wardrobe. Regularly tidy up your closet and think of innovative ways to access your storage. You now have your brand-new closet ready for its debut. Like Amy fine collins said, "Opening your closet should be like arriving at a really good party where everyone you see is someone you like." #fashion #closetclense #organazing #maximisespace #declutter #newclosetnewyou SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dubai Fashion Week Day Five: Emerging Talents, Cultural Heritage, And Global Fashion Dialogues 14 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Marina Ignjat: A Journey Through Style And Travel 13 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Anaya Collection Unveils "Gaudí’s Reverie" At Dubai Fashion Week: A Fusion Of Love, Technique, And Playful Elegance 11 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Hebajasmi Unveils Captivating New Collection For SS25: A Masterpiece Of Art And Fashion 10 September 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS
