  • Breaking Stereotypes About Women and Motorcycles

by Aparajita Jaiswal Breaking Stereotypes About Women and Motorcycles 1 June 2021 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Women shifting gears of their bikes, to shift gears of perspectives of people’s minds! “Life’s not fair; Get used to it”, a renowned quote by Bills Gates and the first rule from his “11 rules you will never learn in school”. Though Bill Gates had quoted these words for everybody in general, women would resonate with the words more effectively than men. Women have been surrounded by and are living in through the innumerable stereotypes since time immemorial. For everyone who is wondering, what a stereotype is, it is an image of how an individual is expected to act based upon factors such as race, nationality, sexual orientation and lot more. From the very beginning, girls come across rigid stereotypes which at times prove to be major barriers on their path of following their heart. The impact of these stereotypes can be bought to light, in two very simple yet thought provoking, statements which are oversimplified and overgeneralized by the society as a whole. “Pink is for girls and blue is for boys”, “Boys don’t cry”, are very common statements. Everyone might have come across one of these two general gender-based stereotypes. What makes everything worse is the fact that, somewhere, each and every person of the society has been, either intentionally or unintentionally been playing a role in building such rigidity. A measure of rigidity is bought to light by the fact that people actually consider that there’s no such thing called stereotyping and usually end up saying “This is how it is meant to be”. One such stereotype being that “motorcycling is not meant for women”. Motorcycling and biking has been always taken as a male oriented niche. Since time immemorable, motorcycling has always been associated with men to pursued as a career, hobby or passion. When talked about “bikers” or “motorcyclists”, the first image that is formed in one’s mind is a strong, masculine figure, wearing helmet and a safety kit and riding a heavy sports bike. Never does the image a woman in the same attire, upon a sports bike occur to people. Moreover, in case of bikers on the racing tracks, women are not even taken in consideration even in the imaginations. For those girls who stand strong and are courageous enough to follow their heart, family restrictions become a barrier. For those who even convince and receive family support, the entire society becomes a major obstacle in their path. Yet as a ray of hope in the midst of this stereotypical hanging rope, there are examples of women who tend to break the stereotypes and follow their passion fighting against all the odds that might cross their path. One such inspiring women is Roshni Misbah. During an interview, she gives us an insight into her journey and how she overcame the set stereotypes to follow her passion and become the only girl in India to own a Ninja H2. “Just because we aren’t allowed to do it, doesn’t mean we can’t do it” Roshni Misbah boldly quotes in favour of all the girls out there who wish to ride. Coming from a family of Islamic scholars and Hafiz’s, and then being a motorcycle enthusiast was odd. Her parents were initially hesitant but she somehow convinced them. The support of her family always which proved to be an ease in the rocky path. Talking about her journey, Roshni mentions that she always received odd looks from people on the road while she rode her bike on the way to college. She specifically mentions the fact that boys usually tried to overtake her, perform some stunts around her and make awkward comments. But nothing could stop her from riding, it was her passion and interest for riding is what kept her going. “As much as we say, we are living in a free world, the fact that there are still places where woman is NOT ALLOWED to do a lot if stuff” she believes. The issue of gender discrimination and stereotypes are very closely interrelated. However, she adds that “I think its all here! In the mind, for you to hold on to and follow your passion.” “You can follow your culture, ethics and yet follow your passion all at a time” she firmly stated. She also puts to light that the stereotypes are just in the mind. Though women today have all the resources and freedom, there is still something that makes their paths so very difficult or becomes a barrier. In most cases its all about the stereotypes and stereotypes are just in the mind. It is the people’s mindset that got to be changed first to bring about the freedom of women in its truest sense. • How To Organize Your Wardrobe

by Prarthana Rohatgi How To Organize Your Wardrobe 16 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Expression is important. The human race has excelled in expressing itself with symbols like the car we drive, the literature we consume, or the clothes we wear. For some people, Fashion is a means of self-expression; it depicts our identity differently. The colors we wear, the style we choose, etc. Organization of your closet means a lot, like organizing your identity. Watching tik tok and vlogs for ideas or as a good sport is easy and fun, but doing the work is intimidating. If you need help and wondering where and how to begin, we've got a guide for you. 1. Declutter: The first step to organizing anything is to declutter. Empty your wardrobe. Clean every nook and corner. Think of emptying your closet like a cleanse. Someone clumsy might find various items you've lost over the years. Earrings that went missing months ago, shoes you have never worn, bags you don't remember owning, or clothes you have been searching for. Organizing anything is impossible if all the objects aren't present, which is why cleaning is essential. Cleaning brings with it some difficult decisions. What to keep and what not to. Tough, thoughtful decisions have to be made. Donate or discard items that you no longer need. Repurpose other items if you can. 2. Categorize The next step is categorizing. Categorizing is for convenience. Every person can have a different preference. Categorizing by seasons. • Why is being Real underrated?

by Aparajita Jaiswal Why is being Real underrated? 16 July 2021 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Contemporary times arranged our lives and turned it to be a lot easier, organised and captivated. Many of us have an impeccable life in real life but people leading a different life are expected to always look good on parade which intentionally leads to deceiving their own conscience. Having an engaged and often organised life is charming, in today’s times. Nevertheless, all of us can’t possess the same thing. Neither we need to be pretentious of the reality, we are trying really hard to settle in. Every day when we wake up, we have a gruelling fight to win. Life throws uncountable targets on us either professional, emotional, or may be related to our family or relationships. And the majority of us work hard with both our body and soul to accomplish those targets. At times our own high standards become unreachable. Yet every day teaches us a lesson. Wise men learn, move on and never look back because we are neither competing with others nor are we a part of any race, organised by the society, being its Jury. Remember! When babies are born, they are born with their own blessings and short-comings. And since then, we have been building a life of our own. We succeed, we fail, we learn, we let go but we grow because There are no failures, only outcomes, as long as I learn Something, I am succeeding. We all encounter many hassles in life with respect to mental and physical health, appearances, standards of living, comparative status or more but at the very least we should cherish that we are learning and succeeding. A long life is awaited… Start your journey with the hard work you expose. You shall reap what you ought to sow. Pull off the unreal mask you have on your face. Show to the world, true warriors are you, in the race.! It’s about time when individuals shall learn to embrace the scars they are born with or have earned in the journey to reach where they are right now. My two cents here, we should at the minimum spare a minute to understand the beauty of individuals we are moving along, of the people we vicariously live through and of the people we are inspired from. Potentially then we can see right through their perfect personality, the scars they are embracing to be Strong, Fierce, Smart, Gracious, Live, Empathetic and Charming. Every individual has built a historical personality from their lives which was inevitably arduous and exceptionally perfect. And, we are able to build an exceptionally impeccable life because we never underrated our reality of being perfect in our imperfections, strong in our failures, real in this very unreal underrated world. “Don’t look back to what others have, Build your own unique real self. Perfections are underrated, Impeccable is the journey you live in.” SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS

  • Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy

by Aparajita Jaiswal Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy 1 May 2021 FASHION Advertisement What we know about Christian Dior, commonly known as Dior, is that it’s a French luxury goods company controlled and chaired by French businessman Bernard Arnault, who also heads LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group. But what many of us do not know about the brand is its origin. The company was founded in 1946 by designer Christian Dior. It currently designs and retails leather goods, fashion accessories, footwear, jewellery, timepieces, fragrance, makeup, and skin care products, while also maintaining its tradition as a creator of haute-couture under the Christian Dior Couture division. The Christian Dior label remains largely for women’s offerings, although the company also operates the Dior Homme division for men and the baby Dior label for children’s wear. Products are sold throughout its portfolio of retail stores worldwide, as well as through its online store. The House of Dior was established on 16 December 1946 in “a private house” at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris. However, the current Dior Corporation celebrates “1947” as the opening year. Businessman Marcel Boussac decided to financially back Dior. Boussac first invited Dior to design for Philippe et Gaston, but Christian Dior declined as he wanted to start his own brand instead of reviving an old one, leading to his first launch, New Look, a fashion collection for Spring–Summer 1947, on 12th February 1947. The company was a majorly owned affiliate of Boussac Saint-Freres S.A. and was really a vanity project for Boussac. Nevertheless, Dior had a non-controlling stake in the firm and allowed a great part of his namesake label despite Boussac’s reputation as a “Control freak”. Expansion from France began by the end of 1949 with the opening of a Christian Dior boutique in New York City. After this, Christian Dior signed a contract with Douglas Cox for Dior to produce original designs and for Douglas Cox to create them in his Flinders Lane workshop in Australia. In 1950, Jacques Rouët, the general manager of Dior Ltd, devised a licensing program to place the now-renowned name of “Christian Dior” visibly on a variety of luxury goods. Members of the French Chamber of Couture denounced it as a degrading action for the haute-couture image. Nevertheless, licensing became a profitable move and began a trend to continue for decades to come, which all couture houses followed. The company operated firmly established locations in Mexico, Cuba, Canada, and Italy by the end of 1953. By the mid-1950s, the House of Dior operated a well-respected fashion empire. Christian Dior launched more highly successful fashion lines between the years of 1954 and 1957. However, none came as close to the profound effect of the New Look. Christian Dior appeared on the cover of TIME dated 4 March 1957. The designer soon afterwards died from a third heart attack on 24 October 1957. The captivating impact of Dior’s creative fashion genius earned him recognition as one of history’s greatest fashion figures. Kevin Almond for Contemporary Fashion wrote that “by the time Dior died his name had become synonymous with taste and luxury.” “Perfume is the indispensable complement to the personality of women, the finishing touch on a dress” ~Christian Dior Dior without Christian Dior. The death of the head designer left the House of Dior in chaos, and general manager Jacques Rouët considered shutting down operation worldwide. This possibility was not received graciously by Dior licensees and the French fashion industry. To bring the label back on its feet, Rouët promoted the 21-year-old Yves Saint-Laurent to Artistic Director the same year. Laurent had joined the House’s family in 1955 after being picked out by the original designer himself for the position of the first ever and only Head Assistant. After change of multiple designers and various scandals, Dior now, presently, has created strong partnerships with Hollywood celebrities and social media influencers, working closely with these individuals to reach more demographics and re-establish its identity as a new, modern brand, despite the fact that it has been around for a while. Dior has effectively implemented social media into their marketing communication strategy, in which images and videos from campaigns are shared on both the official Dior profile, and on the celebrity ambassadors’ social media pages. An example of this success is seen in the Secret Garden campaign featuring Rihanna. Despite the reach not being completely suitable to the Dior target audience, collaborating with the likes of Rihanna allows the company to engage with more of the market, as Rihanna’s social media following is four times larger than that of the fashion house. #DiorChristianDiorFashionLuxuryCompanyCoutureRihannaFrench SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dubai Fashion Week Day Five: Emerging Talents, Cultural Heritage, And Global Fashion Dialogues 14 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Marina Ignjat: A Journey Through Style And Travel 13 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Anaya Collection Unveils "Gaudí’s Reverie" At Dubai Fashion Week: A Fusion Of Love, Technique, And Playful Elegance 11 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Hebajasmi Unveils Captivating New Collection For SS25: A Masterpiece Of Art And Fashion 10 September 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS
