  • How Fashion Shapes and Represents Our Identity

by Yashi Srivastava How Fashion Shapes and Represents Our Identity 14 December 2022 FASHION Advertisement From the stores we visit to the colors that we pick to wear, everything is influenced by our individual personality. While fashion certainly gets us moving towards what’s trending in the current world, it also gets us closer to who we really are by helping us find our own sense of style. It is that simple and it is that complicated - to understand fashion and find our true selves in and with it. So, how does fashion shape and represent our identity? Let’s try and understand. Fashion and age You will see a 15-year old dressed in the fashion of a 50-year old one day and come across a 40-something woman dressed as a k-pop idol in her 20s. Well, it completely depends on the mental or chosen age of the person that how they want to present themselves through their fashion. Many teenagers love wearing sneakers and accessories while a lot of them prefer to adorn baggy jeans with loose T-shirts. In a social event, no two people of the same age will dress the same. Woman A would come in a little black dress while woman B would wear a shimmer top with boyfriend jeans. Fashion and gender The identity surrounding men and women's fashion is another way fashion shapes and represents us. For example, skirts are for women and pants for men. Make-up is only for women while men cannot wear mascara even if they want! If you notice, fashion represents our identities as male and female, even though the world is awakening and the boundary between gender according to gender is fading. Thanks to men in fashion, art, and music, who are challenging the gender norms in fashion and bringing more fluidity and flexibility to it. Also, the LGBTQ+ communities, who are challenging it all, from fashion to acceptance - the world is waking up for good! So, shoutout to men who love to wear lipsticks and women who want to adorn business suits all the time - it is your era and you can shape fashion according to your identity however you want! Fashion and values When a female crosses the age of 13 or 14, she starts receiving the programming of dressing modestly. Well, most of them, so they do not become the object of sexuality- the reality is far from it but you get what I mean, right? Most women grow up in modest fashion so they do not draw attention to them whereas men can walk around however they want. The fashion where women must cover their skins with long skirts and full tops reflects the value of not just an individual buy an entire culture. However, the times are changing and we, as human beings, need to understand that fashion and culture may go hand in hand but it doesn't have to be as per the norms, but individual choice of men and women both. Fashion is a unique way to tell the world about who we are as human beings. It lets us communicate or in some ways, scream, our individuality to the world. So, why wait for the world to allow us to be who we are? So, go ahead, and try a new fashion today and if it resonates with your individuality, keep the trend. Fashion is more than just a style statement; it boasts of your identity and individuality. Blob - How many times have you wanted to try a new piece of clothing or a footwear simply because you thought it speaks to you, or suits your personality? Well, this is how fashion shapes you and if you continue experimenting with it, it will soon become a part of your identity. #Fashion #FashionYourIdentity #LGBTQFashion #StyleAndFashion #Individuality SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dubai Fashion Week Day Five: Emerging Talents, Cultural Heritage, And Global Fashion Dialogues 14 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Marina Ignjat: A Journey Through Style And Travel 13 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Anaya Collection Unveils "Gaudí’s Reverie" At Dubai Fashion Week: A Fusion Of Love, Technique, And Playful Elegance 11 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Hebajasmi Unveils Captivating New Collection For SS25: A Masterpiece Of Art And Fashion 10 September 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS

She is an influencer, philanthropist, and public speaker for women empowerment. Featured in Forbes, Vanity Fair, and other outlets, she has been the face of brands like Rolls Royce and Damiani. Roza made headlines last year when she revealed that she was a former Russian spy, serving in the military at the age of 18. 16 years ago, she fled Russia and lived in London, Italy, Switzerland, and France, before moving to the United States. In an exclusive interview, she spoke to us about her inspiring journey from an ex-spy to a successful activist and philanthropist. “Since I was little, my father taught me to protect people. When I turned 18 years old, my dad sent me to a military espionage academy in Russia, where I learned seduction, influence, and manipulation techniques. I was sent for missions to stop human and drug trafficking. I can’t forget how young girls of 12-18 years were being dragged and kidnapped for sex labour. I promised myself to do everything to stop it and protect the young generation of women. After leaving the military, I began raising donations for charities supporting women and children, and delivered speeches and talks on how to prevent abuse, manipulation, and violence.” Since then, she has gone on to become a successful entrepreneur and has hosted several charity events. • Books and Beyond with Bound and Tara Khandelwal, founder of Bound

by Aparajita Jaiswal Books and Beyond with Bound and Tara Khandelwal, founder of Bound 5 July 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement While pursuing her passion for books, in a freewheel chat with Aparajita Jaiswal, Tara Khandelwal shares her journey in building Bound from scratch through podcasts with famous authors on “Books and Beyond with Bound.” An ambition young woman with much to bring to the world, Tara Khandelwal has created a world of proximity between writers, readers and authors, leading to a sanctuary for the literary arts. Bookworm, Tara Khandelwal, an editor and writer, is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University and the Columbia Publishing Course. She has worked with organizations like Penguin, BloombergQuint and SheThePeople.TV . Although, her most prized achievement is as a founder of Bound which provides skill building for creativity through writers’ retreats, workshops, writing coaching and editorial services. Tara, alongside her co-founder, Michelle D’costa, has created a podcast called ‘Books and Beyond with Bound’. On this podcast, the ambitious and perspicacious Tara Khandelwal and Michelle D’costa speak to India’s most profound contemporary writers like Manu Pillai, Lisa Ray, Avni Doshi and more, providing voracious readers insights into their favourite authors’ lives. Across international waters, many countries provide various resources for aspiring writers like writing retreats, writing courses, coaching and many more. Tara envisioned something similar and brought it home to India and created similar resources through Bound. “There was an emerging literary culture and people interested in the art of literature but education for the literary arts was international so I decided to plug that cap and started my journey through writer’s retreats, one of the first in India. This was to provide aspiring writers with quality and affordable education.” Her motive was to bridge the gap between readers and their favorite authors and also to provide authors with a platform to engage in teaching what they have procured from this field. After a couple of retreats, bound took to also teaching in various cities like Mumbai and Pune, online and in-person. They teach creative writing for fiction and poetry through meditative writing, screenwriting and various others, their mandate being skill building for creatives. To that end, Bound also provides editorial and mentoring services, enabling authors and writers to work on their projects on a one on one basis. The podcasts, books and beyond with bound, is an attempt to bring readers and writers closer to the authors they love and admire. “It was a dream project for us,” she says. They are almost done with their first season and are definitely going to begin recording their second season. “I wish there were more readers for all the writers out there. That’s one thing I’d like to change about the world.” Tara Khandelwal “Every author that I have worked with I admire for their strong and stellar work ethic.” When asked if as a kid she admired a particular author that encouraged her to pursue a career in this field Tara immediately replied with Enid Blyton. “I was four or five when I first started reading and I started with Enid Blyton. I remember being mind blown when I read my first book, The Secret Island. I didn’t understand the joy of reading at that age but I kept reading and reading from there on forward.” “Every part of my job is challenging but equally fulfilling but the most challenging part is innovating and finding new ways to grow.” Tara says that finding new ways to grow and starting new projects is always challenging but also scary as you never know what is going to happen. “Keeping up motivation is challenging,” she says. “I perceive success as hard work and pushing oneself out of their comfort zone. It is when you know you’re not being complacent and always striving for the next step. For me success would be setting new goals and working to achieve it and having a mentality to achieve resilience.” Tara Khandelwal Besides writing Tara also enjoys yoga as she likes to work out and keep fit and healthy. She also enjoys learning various things. In her free time she does classes and learns about new things and passing her time reading. When asked if she would ever write a book of her own after working to edit other authors’ work she says, “Never say never as never is not in my vocab.” So here’s hoping she does write a book with her profound skill set. Tara Khandelwal has also worked as an editor for Writers’ Side, the biggest literary agency in India, Hachette, Rupa and UK-based Eyewear Publishing, among many others all together. #TaraTaraKhandelwalBooksBooksandbeyondBoundWritersReadersAuthorsLiterary SEARCH Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness COVER STORIES Musings With Maryam Zolghadr COVER STORIES Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress COVER STORIES Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines COVER STORIES Ahsaas Channa Talks About Her Mother Being The Inspiration Behind Her Career COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Komica Anchal: A Journey Of Perseverance, Passion, And Possibilities 11 September 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma From Dream To Reality: The Rise Of Sameer Mark In The Fashion Industry 9 September 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma From The Silver Screen To Human Rights Advocacy With Award Winning Actress Sheena Chohan 21 August 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma The Journey Of Shilpa Joshi: A Musical Odyssey 6 August 2024 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy

by Aparajita Jaiswal Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy 1 May 2021 FASHION Advertisement What we know about Christian Dior, commonly known as Dior, is that it’s a French luxury goods company controlled and chaired by French businessman Bernard Arnault, who also heads LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group. But what many of us do not know about the brand is its origin. The company was founded in 1946 by designer Christian Dior. It currently designs and retails leather goods, fashion accessories, footwear, jewellery, timepieces, fragrance, makeup, and skin care products, while also maintaining its tradition as a creator of haute-couture under the Christian Dior Couture division. The Christian Dior label remains largely for women’s offerings, although the company also operates the Dior Homme division for men and the baby Dior label for children’s wear. Products are sold throughout its portfolio of retail stores worldwide, as well as through its online store. The House of Dior was established on 16 December 1946 in “a private house” at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris. However, the current Dior Corporation celebrates “1947” as the opening year. Businessman Marcel Boussac decided to financially back Dior. Boussac first invited Dior to design for Philippe et Gaston, but Christian Dior declined as he wanted to start his own brand instead of reviving an old one, leading to his first launch, New Look, a fashion collection for Spring–Summer 1947, on 12th February 1947. The company was a majorly owned affiliate of Boussac Saint-Freres S.A. and was really a vanity project for Boussac. Nevertheless, Dior had a non-controlling stake in the firm and allowed a great part of his namesake label despite Boussac’s reputation as a “Control freak”. Expansion from France began by the end of 1949 with the opening of a Christian Dior boutique in New York City. After this, Christian Dior signed a contract with Douglas Cox for Dior to produce original designs and for Douglas Cox to create them in his Flinders Lane workshop in Australia. In 1950, Jacques Rouët, the general manager of Dior Ltd, devised a licensing program to place the now-renowned name of “Christian Dior” visibly on a variety of luxury goods. Members of the French Chamber of Couture denounced it as a degrading action for the haute-couture image. Nevertheless, licensing became a profitable move and began a trend to continue for decades to come, which all couture houses followed. The company operated firmly established locations in Mexico, Cuba, Canada, and Italy by the end of 1953. By the mid-1950s, the House of Dior operated a well-respected fashion empire. Christian Dior launched more highly successful fashion lines between the years of 1954 and 1957. However, none came as close to the profound effect of the New Look. Christian Dior appeared on the cover of TIME dated 4 March 1957. The designer soon afterwards died from a third heart attack on 24 October 1957. The captivating impact of Dior’s creative fashion genius earned him recognition as one of history’s greatest fashion figures. Kevin Almond for Contemporary Fashion wrote that “by the time Dior died his name had become synonymous with taste and luxury.” “Perfume is the indispensable complement to the personality of women, the finishing touch on a dress” ~Christian Dior Dior without Christian Dior. The death of the head designer left the House of Dior in chaos, and general manager Jacques Rouët considered shutting down operation worldwide. This possibility was not received graciously by Dior licensees and the French fashion industry. To bring the label back on its feet, Rouët promoted the 21-year-old Yves Saint-Laurent to Artistic Director the same year. Laurent had joined the House’s family in 1955 after being picked out by the original designer himself for the position of the first ever and only Head Assistant. After change of multiple designers and various scandals, Dior now, presently, has created strong partnerships with Hollywood celebrities and social media influencers, working closely with these individuals to reach more demographics and re-establish its identity as a new, modern brand, despite the fact that it has been around for a while. Dior has effectively implemented social media into their marketing communication strategy, in which images and videos from campaigns are shared on both the official Dior profile, and on the celebrity ambassadors’ social media pages. An example of this success is seen in the Secret Garden campaign featuring Rihanna. Despite the reach not being completely suitable to the Dior target audience, collaborating with the likes of Rihanna allows the company to engage with more of the market, as Rihanna’s social media following is four times larger than that of the fashion house. #DiorChristianDiorFashionLuxuryCompanyCoutureRihannaFrench SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dubai Fashion Week Day Five: Emerging Talents, Cultural Heritage, And Global Fashion Dialogues 14 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Marina Ignjat: A Journey Through Style And Travel 13 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Anaya Collection Unveils "Gaudí’s Reverie" At Dubai Fashion Week: A Fusion Of Love, Technique, And Playful Elegance 11 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Hebajasmi Unveils Captivating New Collection For SS25: A Masterpiece Of Art And Fashion 10 September 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS

  • Home Ingredients That Dermatologists Swear By

By Anushka Sharma Home Ingredients That Dermatologists Swear By 19 June 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement In the quest for healthy and radiant skin, many individuals turn to home ingredients as a natural, cost-effective alternative to expensive skincare products. However, experts emphasize the importance of understanding the root causes of skin issues before adopting any home remedies. Consulting a dermatologist can provide valuable insights into your skin’s specific needs and help you avoid ingredients that may do more harm than good. Most dermatologists offer a guide on the home ingredients that are safe and beneficial for your skin, and those that should be avoided. Safe and Effective Home Ingredients That Dermatologists Love: Turmeric: Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Can be used in various forms: mixed with milk or water, as a scrub, or as a face pack. Helps achieve glowing, tan-free, and radiant skin. Aloe Vera Gel: Can be store-bought (check ingredients) or directly extracted from the plant. The latter is always better! Rejuvenates the skin and serves as a natural moisturizer. Effective in treating sunburn, cuts, and occasional pimples. Cucumber: Naturally refreshes the skin and reduces puffiness. Can be applied directly to the skin for a cooling effect. Rose Water: Acts as a toner and can be included in face packs. Cleanses and calms the skin, providing a soothing effect. Honey: Rich in antioxidants and possesses exfoliating, moisturizing, and skin-lightening properties. Can be used alone or mixed with yogurt, turmeric, olive oil, etc., for enhanced benefits. Raw Milk: Prevents wrinkles and hydrates the skin. Can be applied directly to the face for a youthful glow. Olive Oil: Excellent for dry skin due to its moisturizing properties. Can be used as a natural remedy for maintaining skin hydration. Coconut Oil: Repairs the skin’s outer barrier and has antibacterial properties. Effective in calming skin inflammation, promoting healing, and slowing down aging. Best suited for dry skin. Yogurt/Curd: Highly moisturizing and can be used alone or combined with honey, aloe vera, turmeric, or olive oil. Beneficial for hydrating the skin and providing a natural glow. Importance Of Diet In Skincare: Most dermatologists stress that skin care is not only about topical treatments but also about what you consume. A diet rich in certain nutrients can significantly improve skin health. Omega-3 Fatty Acids And Polyphenols: Found in fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds. These nutrients help maintain skin health and fight inflammation. Beta-Carotene Is Your Best Friend: Consuming beta-carotene-rich foods can eliminate pale complexion and protect against winter skin issues. Found in carrots, sweet potatoes, and other colorful vegetables. Never Forget The Importance Of A Balanced Diet: Incorporate ample servings of vegetables, nuts, fruits, and proteins like beans and legumes. A balanced diet strengthens the gut and combats inflammation, reflecting positively on your skin. While home ingredients can be a boon for skincare, it is crucial to use them wisely and in consultation with a dermatologist. Understanding the causes of your skin issues and knowing which ingredients to use can lead to healthier, more radiant skin. Incorporate these dermatologist-approved ingredients into your skincare routine, and complement them with a nutritious diet to achieve the best results. Remember, skincare starts from the inside out, and a holistic approach will ensure long-lasting benefits for your skin. He created the first automobile that middle-class Americans could afford. He converted the automobile from an expensive curiosity into an accessible conveyance. He was given the title of FORDISM. He became one of the richest and best-known people in the world. He offered high wages for workers. Ford had a global vision and believed in consumerism as the key to peace. “Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.” – Henry Ford, Autobiography Henry Ford (dbsn), was born in Michigan. His father’s family emigrated from Somerset, England in the 16th Century. Henry had four siblings. His father gave him a pocket watch in his early teens. At fifteen, he dismantled and reassembled the timepieces of his friends and neighbors. He did this dozens of times that made him gain the reputation of a watch repairman. He was devastated when his mother passed away in 1876. His father expected him to take over their family farm, but he despised farm work. He later wrote, ” I never had any particular love for the farm-it was the mother on the farm I loved.” Ford left his home in 1879 to work as an apprentice machinist in Detroit. Three years later, he returned to Dearborn to work on the family farm. There he became adept at operating the Westinghouse portable steam engines. He was later hired by the Westinghouse. During this period, he also studied bookkeeping at Goldsmith, Bryant & Stratton Business College, Detroit. When he was 12, he received a watch. Also, he witnessed the operation of a Nichols and Shepard road engine. In his farm, Ford built a “steam wagon or tractor.” In 1890, he started work on a two-cylinder engine. In 1892, he completed his first motor car, powered by a two-cylinder four horsepower motor. In 1893, the machine was running to his partial satisfaction and giving an opportunity further to test the design on the road. Between 1895 and 1896, Ford drove that machine about 1000 miles. Ford then started a second car in 1896, he built three cars in his home workshop. By 1918, half of all cars in the United States were Model Ts. Ford was always eager to sell to farmers who looked on the vehicle as a commercial device to help their business. MILTON FINGER, BOB KANE AND GEORGE BARRIS MILTON FINGER, also known as BILL FINGER, was an American comic strip and comic book writer best known as the Creator. An aspiring writer and a part-time shoe salesman, Finger joined Bob Kane’s nascent studio in 1938. Kane later offered him a job ghost writing the strips Rusty and Clip Carson. Early the following year, after National Comics’ success Kane conceived “the Bat-Man.” Finger then recalled ‘Batman’. Finger offered such suggestions as giving a cowl, a cape instead of wings, adding gloves, and removing the red sections from the original costume. Soon this unique style received love and appreciation from across the globe. But Finger’s name did not appear as an official credit on Batman stories or films until 2015. The BATMOBILE is the fictional car driven by the Batman. Housed in the Batcave, which it accesses through a hidden entrance, the Batmobile is both a heavily armored tactical assault vehicle and a personalized custom-built pursuit and capture vehicle that is used by Batman in his fight against crime. The Batmobile made way into people’s lives in actual shape and form as FORD LINCOLN FUTURA 1955. It was customized in 15 days at a cost of $15,000 by George Barris. Barris was born in Chicago. His mother died when he was a toddler. After that he moved to California to with his uncle. He began restoring with cars at an early age, later moved to Los Angles at the age of 18. There he set up a custom shop with his brother. He soon became known for his daring, flashy designs and customized cars for Hollywood sets. Experts say he helped to redefine the field of car customization, elevating it to a new, more populist art form in much lesser time and money. It was featured in the original Batman TV series starring Adam West. Barris kept it in his private collection until 2012. It eventually sold for $4.2 million. CARL FRIEDRICH BENZ Benz was a German engine designer and an automotive engineer. The first ever practical automobile was made by him as Benz Patent Motorcar from 1885. He received a patent for the motorcar in 1886. When he was two years old, his father died of pneumonia. His name was changed to Karl Friedrich Benz in remembrance of his father. Benz’s lifelong hobby brought him to a bicycle repair shop in Mannheim. In 1883, Benz along with the two owners of the bicycle repair shop founded a new company producing industrial machines, usually referred to as Benz & Cie. Quickly growing to twenty-five employees, it soon began to produce static gas engines as well. The success of the company gave Benz the opportunity to indulge in his old passion of designing a horseless carriage. With his fondness and experience, he used similar technology when he created an automobile. Benz was unhappy because he was left with merely five percent of the shares and a modest position as a director. Worst of all, his ideas weren’t considered when designing new products. One year later, he withdrew from that corporation. Benz began to sell the vehicle and made it commercially available automobile in history. The second customer of the Motorwagen was a Parisian bicycle manufacturer who had already been building Benz engines under license from Karl Benz for several years. Roger added the Benz automobiles to the line he carried in Paris and initially most were sold there. During the last years of the nineteenth century, he came to be known as the owner of the largest automobile company in the world with 572 units produced in 1899 and sales kept increasing tremendously. In 2011, a dramatized television movie about the life of Karl and Bertha Benz was made Carl & Bertha by Das Erste. The famous three-pointed star comes from a postcard sent by Gottlieb Daimler to his wife which said that he was living in a three-pointed star and that ‘one day this star will shine over our triumphant factories.’ The three signify Land, Sea and Air, first seen on a car in 1910. GEORGE FOOTE FOSS George was a machinist, bicycle repairman and inventor from Quebec. He was the inventor of the FOSSMOBILE. It was Canada’s first successful gasoline-powered automobile which he manufactured in 1896. Foss became an entrepreneur at an early age. His first job was running up and down the streets of Sherbrooke, ringing a bell on auction day to help his father. Foss obtained electrical expertise, while apprenticing with Whitney Electrical Instrument Company. He gained knowledge about how to assemble electrical instruments and wind electrical motors. At the age of eighteen, he opened his own shop. He built a 52-volt boat motor. As he traveled, after thirty minutes the batteries in the car died. Then he began to design and build an automobile that would address the problem. He started with a chassis made of old bicycle frames. He never tried to market or mass-produce his automobile. He turned down an offer to finance the production of his automobile. In 1900, he met Henry Ford who offered him a chance to help build a new company that Ford was trying to establish. Foss declined his offer, seeing Fossmobile as inferior. Later, at the age of 37, he went back to working as a machinist. He opened a machine shop in Montreal, Quebec and became a key contributor in the manufacturing of World War 1. In 1960, Foss became an honorary member of the Vintage Automobile Club of Montreal. • This Is What Will Happen If You Stop Using All Skincare Products For Three Months

By Anushka Sharma This Is What Will Happen If You Stop Using All Skincare Products For Three Months 25 June 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement Well, to say the least, your skin will literally clear up like never before. Let’s talk about a case study and refer to that person as “X”, as “X” does not wish to disclose her real identity. X has been travelling the world as a digital nomad throughout her life, and definitely suffered from the adverse effects that travelling has on one’s skin. With a combination skin type, X was trying her level best to come up with a solution that would help her combat her skincare troubles. If you don’t know this already, combination skin type is one of the most common skin types around; It is signified as dry and sensitive in some areas such as one’s cheeks, and oily in others such as one’s T-zone. So, X starts on a journey of skincare which involved involved a twice-daily (morning & evening) face wash, followed by toner, hydrating face cream, and eye cream. She also included an exfoliating face wash once or two times a week. X didn’t want to exactly disclose the names of the brands, because the problem wasn’t in the brands, the problem was in the fact that the world told X to lather her skin with useless products. What happened after that? Well, nothing positive. Until no time, X started breaking out into little red bumps and developing high sensitivity around the cheek-region. It resulted in her skin being itchy, irritable, and inflamed. After a while, X realised that there was no point in using so many products on her skin which was already on a downgrade. Hence, she chose to blindly follow her father’s advice and eliminated every skincare product from her skincare routine. So, what was the new routine like? This routine was something that X would’ve never thought of adhering to in her wildest dreams. However, in this new routine, X chose to eliminate all the products and just keep the basics in hand. She ensured to wash her face every morning/evening with a damp warm towel (no products at all), and made it a point to use a natural lip balm for her lips, sunscreen during the day, and treated her skin to natural face masks on Sunday (All you need to do is literally spread aloe vera, yogurt or honey on your face.) What happened with this routine was BEYOND ORDINARY. For the first two days, X experienced inflammation where the cheek area got a tad irritated. After all, the skin was so fatigued. After two good days, the skin calmed down and continued to get calmer and calmer. Within ten days, X could notice that her skin had visibly calmed down and it looked significantly relaxed. The spots weren’t very prominent and the itchiness and sensitivity had faded. Within thirty days, X’s skin had adjusted to her new skin and saw pretty good results. Almost everything had faded and she was left with clear, almost supple, baby-like skin. This article isn’t written to make you hate lab-formulated products. However, it’s always ideal to look out for natural ingredients that are extracted from the goodness of the Earth. The usage of so many products definitely exposes our skin to a whole lot of chemicals and strips it off its essential oils. Why on earth would we ever want that for our skin? • Kaveri Priyam On Making Her Childhood Dream Come True

by Anushka Sharma Kaveri Priyam On Making Her Childhood Dream Come True 13 March 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement In a candid interview, Kaveri Priyam tells us that she had absolutely no idea about how to start working in the industry! All she was clear about was getting herself enrolled in an acting institute and continuing her theatres. Afterwards, she came to know about the auditions happening in Aram nagar and without the knowledge of the do’s and don’ts, she simply started giving them! Slowly, she started learning the various things about the industry and as it was a long process, she had the opportunity of experiencing the ups and downs, the rights and wrongs and helping herself when needed which further helped her to sustain in the industry. Kaveri says that it’s all those initial years which are helping her to support herself till date. She tells us that her experience was very good apart from the times when casting directors asked for money or when they tell you that you are not the appropriate shape or size or colour for this industry. She said that for some time she even took these comments on herself and tried to work in accordance with them but eventually she realised what was good for her and what was not. Kaveri says, “Working in the industry has always been very fun. Touchwood, I have been very lucky because I got the opportunity to work with very lovely people who never made me feel that I was a newcomer in the beginning.” As a child, she always wanted to become an actor. She says she was a born drama queen and was always a part of extracurricular activities. She says she has been lucky to have a good support system; good teachers who were very proactive and her mom, who got her enrolled in various classes. Straight after school, cycling daily to her Kathak classes was extremely hectic but she really enjoyed the part where she used to be on the stage. She used to act, direct, write stories and enact them with friends which unknowingly turned out to be street plays and attract a lot of crowd on the spot. She says that as a child you would think that you are just doing all this for your playtime fun but gradually she realised that she really liked doing all of it by heart. That’s when she decided to become an actor. Despite having a studious family and mindset she realised she didn’t really enjoy it all, and acting was actually what she truly wanted to do. The day she got rejected from one of the exams was her turning point. Thus, she started giving auditions, doing theatres in Delhi and finally she got selected for a show and came to Mumbai. The show didn’t work out well but it brought her to the place where she belonged! Talking about her upcoming projects she tells us, “I am super excited for my upcoming show which is going to air on Sony Sab very soon. The name is ‘Dil diyan Gallan’ and as the name suggests, it’s Punjab based story. So I am looking forward to it, playing a new character, getting into someone else’s shoes. I am super excited for it and also for my new music video which is going to be released soon.” Kaveri speaks about what she loves the most about acting and she said, “I love the way it takes you to different places, makes you meet a lot of different people and the way it helps you grow as a person and an artist. When you work with amazing people from different walks of life, you get to know more about life in general, about different people who exist in the society and with each character you get to be in someone else’s shoes. I believe an actor is someone who can live a thousand lives, which is something really attractive and I literally live to do this. I live to live different characters, different lives, visit new places, locations and meet new people and work with amazing directors and producers. So yes, that is what I feel life is, it should be exciting every day.” We asked her where does she see herself in the next 5 years in this ever-changing entertainment industry and she answered, “I know that this industry is ever-changing and I think nothing is permanent and change is the essence of life so I do not fear change, all I expect from myself is that I adapt to the change, adjust and keep entertaining people. In the coming 5 years I see myself as someone who knows all the tricks and trades of my field and then maybe later I can decide on what sort of work I want to do in the industry. I want to progress, that’s for sure.” Apart from being the character, she thinks, to look like the character is a challenging job. If the character is plumpy, extremely thin or ranky, it is something which takes a toll on your health because there is a limited amount of time in which an actor has to look a certain way and if not followed under proper guidance, it might hamper your health. She says that it’s not particularly tough but extremely challenging, and especially for her as she is a big foodie. But, as of now she hasn’t got the chance to completely transform herself and she does look forward to doing such roles in the future. Kaveri speaks candidly about the pressure in her work and what she does to tackle it, to which she simply said that she, personally, never really had to deal with any such thing. “If you enjoy doing something and can feel that it is meant for you then, that’s it. There is pressure in every other sector and I think that it is a part of work and it should be taken lightly. There is this constant thought that should be there in your mind that you are getting to do what you always wanted to, and so, it is a blessing. There are certain schedules you have to adjust yourself in but that is the fun and challenging part of it which makes it exciting.” About her journey and the obstacles, she tells us that, “Wherever I went to take acting classes, I was always told that I am gifted, which I didn’t understand at that time, but, slowly I got to know that some things are actually there within me but they need to be polished. To convert the talent into skills, the theatres and acting classes helped a lot. Talking about the journey, initially it was tough as you are exploring new things but once you cross that phase, get a break, get appreciated, gain the confidence then things become a little easier. Although competition is there, you have to be determined, focused, keep working on your craft and that is how one succeeds in any field. It has not exactly been a roller coaster ride but, I had my own challenges which I overcame. One of the challenges was that I was overweight for this industry but I decided I wanted to look good on camera and I made that transformation for my first show, from being a very plumpy to a very thin and lean girl. I won't call it an obstacle, but just a part of the job.” For our readers who may not be as familiar with her line of work, she says, “ Be it any industry, there are all sorts of people so, telling someone that this or that industry is not good, is baseless. Meeting, approaching and having the right circle of people around you is very important to achieve anything in life because there has got to be someone who shows you the path and the right direction. Maybe you will find it on your own or someone from your near and dear ones will guide you, but that direction is very important otherwise you might just be all over the place.” Be it any industry, move forward, stay focused, go in the right direction and make sure you meet the right people.
