  • The Skill Of Ageing Gracefully: Secrets From The Land Of Longevity

By Rini Pathak The Skill Of Ageing Gracefully: Secrets From The Land Of Longevity 17 March 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Japan is one of the most futuristic nations in the world. It is a nation with a wealth of things to offer. The list is endless and includes things like modern washrooms, luxurious automobiles, and distinctive cultures. The icing on the cake are the Japanese ideas that change people’s lives for the better. In today’s hectic and fast-paced world, they are indispensable for achieving contentment and tranquility. After all, the life expectancy rate in Japan is the second highest. Surely, they must be taking some steps to achieve such results, right? So, today let us take a tour of Japan’s famous concepts (virtually of course) and understand how these concepts would let us live a happier and successful life which might be a reason for our longevity. IKIGAI: The words, “Iki” and “gai,” which were previously called “kai” and signify “life” and “value” or “worth,” respectively, are the roots of the term “Ikigai.” Originally, the goal of Japanese Ikigai philosophy was to discover one’s actual happiness. According to a contemporary perspective, it is a technique for locating one’s ideal job. By matching one’s passion with what the world needs right now, one may utilize it as a compass that informs one what they are destined to do. SHINRIN-YOKU: Shinrin-yoku, commonly referred to as forest bathing, is a practice that entails submerging oneself in the natural world and inhaling the scents of the forest. It’s thought to improve general wellbeing, elevate mood, and lessen stress. In today’s hectic and technology driven world, we hardly ever have time to disconnect from technological devices and the daily grind. Shinrin-yoku enters the scene here as a readily available, cost-free therapeutic counteragent. WABI-SABI: Do you frequently find it difficult to go on or begin anything new because your default setting is to strive for perfection? Then, the concept of Wabi-Sabi is perfect for you. Wabi-Sabi is the practice of reminding ourselves that nothing in this world is permanent and that striving for perfection is pointless, we must strive to appreciate its inherent beauty and make the greatest possible use of it. HARA HACHI BU: This idea originates from Okinawan culture, where it’s customary to eat until 80% full. In the culture, it is believed that people can prevent overeating and excessive calorie intake by stopping their meals before they are fully satisfied. Hara hachi bu is a technique that can lengthen life and assist in stopping overeating. This technique is thought to improve digestion, help people lose weight, and improve general health. MA: “Ma” denotes the idea of negative space, or the space between things, in Japanese terminology. It is the area that is often left purposefully vacant or uncertain in between things, factors, or times. Ma is the presence of potential and possibility as well as the absence of something. Ma is a refined practice in Japanese culture that enables one to reflect in silence. It improves one’s intuition and cerebral faculties and hence is a physical representation of spirituality. SHIKATA GA NAI: The Japanese idea of Shikata Ga Nai, also known as Sho(ga) nai, means relinquishing control over uncontrollable things. Shikata Ga NAi, which merely means “it can’t be helped,” exhorts individuals to accept circumstances or things for what they are. In other words, it communicates the idea of accepting the situation as it is and moving on without focusing on the things that cannot be altered. Therefore, it is clear from the article that including the above said ideas into daily living can improve one’s emotional, mental, and physical well-being, which will ultimately result in a more fulfilling and satisfying life. Let me tell you here that if you have the determination, discipline, and commitment to live a meaningful life, practicing them is simple. These Japanese ideas will give you the bravery, fortitude, and knowledge to handle any hardship with grace, and they will completely change your life for the better. • Is a hangover curable by sweating it out?

by Aishwarya Is a hangover curable by sweating it out? 4 November 2022 LIFESTYLE Advertisement With all of the holiday parties, house guests, and office happy hours, there's a risk you'll drink a little too much one of these nights. That can make for a difficult morning. Of course, we're talking about the dreadful hangover. Everyone has their solution for resolving the issue. Maybe it's a chilly shower and a cup of black coffee. Perhaps it's simply returning to sleep for a few hours. You've probably heard about a variety of hangover remedies. A common misconception is that a rigorous workout will help you sweat out a hangover. Although lifting weights or swimming laps after overindulging may help alleviate your guilt, there is no concrete evidence that exercising out after drinking can help you feel more human faster. You could be better off simply resting and hydrating during the day. Can you, therefore, sweat out your hangover to recover faster? Many people swear by it, whether it's going for a morning run or spending 20 minutes in the hot tub. Is it, indeed, effective? Fortunately, some of the world's most brilliant brains have pondered the same question. The British Journal of Sports Medicine investigated the relationship between physical activity and alcohol use in terms of health and death. The findings demonstrated that exercising at the recommended physical activity level — at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week — mitigates some of the hazards and negative effects of alcohol. That isn't the same as healing your current hangover, but exercise has shown promise in combating some of the overall harm caused by drinking. "No compelling evidence exists to show that any conventional or complementary intervention is useful for preventing or treating alcohol hangover," according to a BMJ article published through the National Institutes of Health. This includes anecdotal classics such as raw egg yolks, over-the-counter hangover cures, dog hair, and, yes, exercise. "The most effective strategy to avoid the symptoms of an alcohol-induced hangover is to practise abstinence or moderation," it says. Before you go to the gym, understand the hazards and potential benefits of working out while hungover: Dehydration: Alcohol is a stimulant, which means it causes the body to lose more water than it takes in (through urination and perspiration). Many hangover symptoms, such as dry mouth, headaches, and nausea, are commonly caused by this. Exercising and sweating might dehydrate you even more. You may be able to work out later in the day if you can drink enough to feel better, but don't use exercise as a cure. It may simply make you feel worse if you are dehydrated. Brain Fog: One of the adverse effects of excessive drinking is difficulty concentrating. When lifting weights or performing cardio on a machine, you're much more likely to harm yourself or someone else simply because you're distracted. Discomfort and Anxiety: Drinking excessively imposes stress on the body, making everything more difficult, including exercise. Your body requires time to mend, rehydrate, and recover from a hangover. A rigorous workout before you've healed can put your body under even more strain. In other words, working out when you're already feeling lousy isn't going to help. However, if your hangover symptoms are moderate, a brisk workout may aid in your recovery. Movement can help relieve stress by increasing blood flow, releasing endorphins, and relaxing tight muscles and joints. After all, physical activity produces "feel-good" chemicals and hormones that enhance energy and mood. Keep in mind that doing exercise will not help your body absorb alcohol faster. Any advantages of exercise are related to symptom alleviation rather than "curing" the hangover. Can you, therefore, sweat out your hangover to recover faster? Many people swear by it, whether it's going for a morning run or spending 20 minutes in the hot tub. Is it, indeed, effective? #Hangover #Alcohol #Drinking #Excercise #SweatOut #Lifestyle SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma From Dental Drills To Instagram Thrills: The Journey Of Mekhala Bawsay 16 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Juggling Two Worlds: The Inspiring Journey Of Kritika Goel 16 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Kanchan Serai: Balancing The Skies And The Spotlight 15 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Nikita Pawar: From Fashion Design To Digital Stardom 15 August 2024 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • Why is childhood obesity becoming so common?

by Rupashree Ravi Why is childhood obesity becoming so common? 15 August 2022 LIFESTYLE Advertisement One in five children between the ages of six and nineteen years in the United States have a body mass index at or above the 95th percentile, which is considered obese. Over forty population of the adult population in the US are also obese. In India, there’s been an alarming rise in childhood obesity all over the country, with over 18 million overweight children. And when the parents are overweight, their kids are eighty per cent more likely to have a weight problem too. Are parents making their children fat? Yes, the reason is that the easy, quick, and cheap food options that parents are providing their children fuel an obesity epidemic. Canned, processed, and packaged foods have become the go-to option for working parents who don’t have the time to prepare fresh home-cooked meals. Instant and ready-to-eat meals have become popular alternatives. Moreover, children regularly binge-eat junk options like fast food, chips, and cookies as snacks. “A typical Indian diet relies heavily on salt and sugar. They eat more convenience food that is high on carbs, instead of balanced meals.” A healthy Indian meal can constitute a combination of pulses, fibres, proteins and carbohydrates During the pandemic, these unhealthy eating habits only kept increasing due to the absence of regulated meals. A study found that the screen time for children aged between ten to fourteen years doubled as lockdowns were imposed globally. With the lack of a routine, there were also increased stress hormones, increased snacking, and emotional eating, which all contributed to increased weight gain in children. Parents and children also began to use food delivery apps more often. The lockdowns made children more obese due to poorer diets Of course, it is a proven fact that childhood obesity is a chronic disease. It has a lot of causal factors like a person’s genetics, individual metabolism, sleeping patterns, eating habits, and how physically active they are. Even other factors like negative childhood experiences, social factors like poverty and race, and environmental factors like financial status play an important role. But there are some other subtle factors as well. When it comes to the packaging of these products, colour plays an important role in children’s choice of food. For example, bright red increases a particular food product’s perceived taste, while green increases its perceived healthiness. Children also easily remember the brand names of junk food. Children should have regulated and balanced diets So what’s the solution? A great way for parents to start is by monitoring children’s screen time and showing consistency with media limits. Get your children to play outdoors more often. Parents should also protect their sleep time, and ensure they eat balanced meals of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, fruits, and vegetables each day. It’s important that they read the entire nutritional label before purchasing a product and encourage healthier food and lifestyle choices. Because obesity is not just medical and physical health-related, but it also impacts the psychological and social well-being of children. With these right steps, we can prevent and fight obesity in children, before it becomes a larger and global issue. #Obesity #ChildhoodObesity #Overweight #HealthyEating #SayNoToJunk SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma From Dental Drills To Instagram Thrills: The Journey Of Mekhala Bawsay 16 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Juggling Two Worlds: The Inspiring Journey Of Kritika Goel 16 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Kanchan Serai: Balancing The Skies And The Spotlight 15 August 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Nikita Pawar: From Fashion Design To Digital Stardom 15 August 2024 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • A Journey Of Transformation, Empathy, And Unwavering Passion With Jitin Gulati

By Anushka Sharma A Journey Of Transformation, Empathy, And Unwavering Passion With Jitin Gulati 11 October 2024 COVER STORIES Advertisement We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Jitin Gulati , a dynamic actor who has been making waves with his unique roles and remarkable journey in the entertainment industry. Reflecting on his career, Jitin shares that his evolution as an actor has been as much about personal growth as it has been about his diverse roles. “In one word, if I had to sum up my journey, it would be ‘enriching.’ The characters I've portrayed have taught me not only about the craft but also about myself as a person,” he shares, offering a glimpse into his reflective approach to his work. Jitin emphasizes that, for him, the genre of a project is secondary. What truly excites him is the complexity and depth of the roles he takes on. “I am more drawn to characters that are far removed from my own life. It’s an opportunity to explore new worlds and bring these unfamiliar personas to life with empathy.” He credits the directors and creative teams he works with for making this experience even more profound. One of Jitin’s latest projects, “Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper”, available on Netflix, touches on important societal themes. “While the show is wrapped in a comedic tone, it subtly discusses issues like gender, masculinity, and how professions that are often misunderstood or stigmatized deserve the same respect as any other.” Jitin was particularly drawn to the lack of judgment in the script and was excited to work on a role that presented such important conversations in a lighthearted setting. When asked about his most cherished projects, Jitin couldn’t pick just one. He recalls the camaraderie developed over five years while working on “Bombay Meri Jaan”,particularly as the project spanned several COVID lockdowns. Another significant milestone in his career was playing a transgender character in “Kala”, a role that opened up an entirely new world for him. “From makeup to costume fittings, it was an immersive experience—both nerve-wracking and incredibly rewarding.” Despite his passion for acting, Jitin cherishes his time off with family. As an actor constantly on the move, he values the time spent reconnecting with his roots and his family in Faridabad. “It’s my way to recharge, and it grounds me,” he reflects. As for future plans, Jitin’s focus remains clear: he aims to keep learning and growing. He’s excited about his upcoming projects, including a supernatural horror film and a period fantasy drama. He also shared an inspiring facet of his life: before pursuing acting full-time, Jitin worked for nearly nine years in banking. “It was a big leap, but I’ve always known my dream was to act. Sometimes, you just have to take that chance,” he adds. In closing, Jitin revealed his admiration for industry legends Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, both of whom he’s had the honor of working with. “People often say you shouldn’t meet your heroes, but in this case, you absolutely should. They are as remarkable in person as they are on screen.” This candid conversation with Jitin provided a deeper look into the man behind the roles—a thoughtful actor continually evolving in his craft and inspiring others with his journey. by Aparajita Jaiswal Books and Beyond with Bound and Tara Khandelwal, founder of Bound 5 July 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement While pursuing her passion for books, in a freewheel chat with Aparajita Jaiswal, Tara Khandelwal shares her journey in building Bound from scratch through podcasts with famous authors on “Books and Beyond with Bound.” An ambition young woman with much to bring to the world, Tara Khandelwal has created a world of proximity between writers, readers and authors, leading to a sanctuary for the literary arts. Bookworm, Tara Khandelwal, an editor and writer, is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University and the Columbia Publishing Course. She has worked with organizations like Penguin, BloombergQuint and SheThePeople.TV . Although, her most prized achievement is as a founder of Bound which provides skill building for creativity through writers’ retreats, workshops, writing coaching and editorial services. Tara, alongside her co-founder, Michelle D’costa, has created a podcast called ‘Books and Beyond with Bound’. On this podcast, the ambitious and perspicacious Tara Khandelwal and Michelle D’costa speak to India’s most profound contemporary writers like Manu Pillai, Lisa Ray, Avni Doshi and more, providing voracious readers insights into their favourite authors’ lives. Across international waters, many countries provide various resources for aspiring writers like writing retreats, writing courses, coaching and many more. Tara envisioned something similar and brought it home to India and created similar resources through Bound. “There was an emerging literary culture and people interested in the art of literature but education for the literary arts was international so I decided to plug that cap and started my journey through writer’s retreats, one of the first in India. This was to provide aspiring writers with quality and affordable education.” Her motive was to bridge the gap between readers and their favorite authors and also to provide authors with a platform to engage in teaching what they have procured from this field. After a couple of retreats, bound took to also teaching in various cities like Mumbai and Pune, online and in-person. They teach creative writing for fiction and poetry through meditative writing, screenwriting and various others, their mandate being skill building for creatives. To that end, Bound also provides editorial and mentoring services, enabling authors and writers to work on their projects on a one on one basis. The podcasts, books and beyond with bound, is an attempt to bring readers and writers closer to the authors they love and admire. “It was a dream project for us,” she says. They are almost done with their first season and are definitely going to begin recording their second season. “I wish there were more readers for all the writers out there. That’s one thing I’d like to change about the world.” Tara Khandelwal “Every author that I have worked with I admire for their strong and stellar work ethic.” When asked if as a kid she admired a particular author that encouraged her to pursue a career in this field Tara immediately replied with Enid Blyton. “I was four or five when I first started reading and I started with Enid Blyton. I remember being mind blown when I read my first book, The Secret Island. I didn’t understand the joy of reading at that age but I kept reading and reading from there on forward.” “Every part of my job is challenging but equally fulfilling but the most challenging part is innovating and finding new ways to grow.” Tara says that finding new ways to grow and starting new projects is always challenging but also scary as you never know what is going to happen. “Keeping up motivation is challenging,” she says. “I perceive success as hard work and pushing oneself out of their comfort zone. It is when you know you’re not being complacent and always striving for the next step. For me success would be setting new goals and working to achieve it and having a mentality to achieve resilience.” Tara Khandelwal Besides writing Tara also enjoys yoga as she likes to work out and keep fit and healthy. She also enjoys learning various things. In her free time she does classes and learns about new things and passing her time reading. When asked if she would ever write a book of her own after working to edit other authors’ work she says, “Never say never as never is not in my vocab.” So here’s hoping she does write a book with her profound skill set. • Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines

by Aparajita Jaiswal Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines 12 February 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement Kavya Thapar is an Indian actress and model who works in Telugu, Tamil as well as Hindi films. Having an illustrious career in both film and fashion, she talked to us about her upcoming projects, her big break, her fashion mantra and some other things that tell us about the versatile person that she is. Kavya was first asked about her “big break” in her career. She highlighted the years 2017 and 2018 as some of the most defining years of her career. She replied “ I started doing ads in 2017 and got my first Telugu movie in October 2017 and my first Tamil and Hindi movies by 2018” Here, Kavya is talking about the movie Ee Maaya Peremito , which was a Telugu language movie that came out in 2018. Kavya played the role of Sheetal Jain in the film, who is the daughter of a rich businessperson. Having worked both in the South and the North of India, Kavya seems to have enjoyed the best of both worlds in the Indian film industry. Carrying this assumption, we asked how she would describe her experience of working both in the South and in Bollywood. Her response met our expectations, when she said “Both the industries have a lot to offer and it’s been a very exciting and overwhelming experience for me. I’ve always been blessed to find amazing opportunities in both the industries and I’ve found some people who are extremely dear to me and are now family. Overall my experience has been nothing short of a blessing and I thank god and my Guruji every day for my journey.’ Her gratefulness for her success was indeed heart-warming. Kavya’s filmography spans across a wide variety of films by now, with distinct plots, genres, roles and of course, languages. Therefore, we had to ask her, which of her works was the closest to her heart. Interestingly, her reply was that she simply could not decide. “I don’t think I can be biased when it comes to my work. Every project I take up I believe in 100% and it’s like my baby.” We then asked her what her advice was for the numerous young women who are trying to get into her industry. The simplicity and authenticity of her advice impressed us, as she advised young aspirants to simply be themselves. She also emphasized hard-work and honesty, along with the right amount of faith and grace. “Don’t find easy ways and solutions. Be patient and keep going with a smile and a prayer.” she said. Kavya was also asked by us about any “fashion mantra” she followed, and would like to share. Her reply was quite amusing, while still being incredibly genuine and profound- a delicate combination indeed. “For me fashion is what my stylists suggest honestly. Otherwise personally I only seek maximum comfort. I believe clothes are made to fit us and we aren’t supposed to fit into clothes. Also size doesn’t matter so wear what you want when you want and how you want just be happy and comfortable. ” Finally, she told us about her upcoming projects. We discovered that 2023 is going to be quite a busy year for Kavya, as she is working on 3 movies down south (two in Tamil and one in Telugu). Without telling us too much and keeping us on the hook, she also mentioned that she has “something very exciting coming up” in Hindi on Amazon Prime. We can’t wait for whatever that might be and wish her the very best for her career. • Ethiopia: a country seven years behind the rest of the world

by Aishwarya Ethiopia: a country seven years behind the rest of the world 1 November 2022 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement What if I say that, you can go back in time? Back in time, that too seven years back in time than the rest of the world. That’s unbelievable, right? Well, that’s possible if you plan to travel to Ethiopia. Yes, you read that right. Ethiopia is an African country known for its unique calendar system. The Ethiopian calendar has not only twelve months but, it has thirteen months. It has 12 months of 30 days each and the last month is called “Pagume”- which has five days to it. The month of Pagume has six days in a leap year which comes every four years. Ethiopia’s calendar is derived from the idea that Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden for seven years before they were expelled for their sins. They were promised to be saved by god, and after 5,500 years- the promise was fulfilled. Ethiopians call their calculating method as “Bahere Hasab” which translates to “sea of thoughts”. This calculating method calculates even Jesus Christ’s birth differently. The Catholic Church amended its calculation in 500 AD, but the Ethiopian Church kept it unchanged. You might be wondering, as of which year are they currently living in? According to the Ethiopian calendar, they are living in the year 2014. You will find it even more unique that they celebrate their New Year on the 11th of September. On the leap years, they celebrate it on the 12th of September. They call their New Year “Enkutatash”, where families celebrate and children receive gifts. A special meal is also prepared and a Coffee Ceremony is held- which lasts for hours. Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of coffee and hence, is a heaven for coffee lovers. It is mind-boggling that Ethiopia has a different time system too. You are already feeling alien, I know. Ethiopia has a 12-hour system, where the day starts at six in the morning and ends at six in the evening. So, it's a dawn to dusk and, a dusk to dawn system, where both midday and midnight are at six. It is also to be noted that the Ethiopian calendar is greatly influenced by biblical anecdotes. The first day of the week is called “Ehud”, which means “the first day” in the ancient Ge’ez language- which is the liturgical language of the Ethiopian Church. According to the Ethiopian calculations, they have 365 days and 6 hours, 2 minutes and 24 seconds. Once in 600 years, two minutes and twenty-four seconds add up to the day and form a seventh day- known as Rena Mealt and Rena Lelit. Moreover, every 600 years, a unique star called Aqede comes out and shadows the sun causing a full solar eclipse. Now, the internet is amused by this fact and is reacting in many ways. Many consider it to be cool, some creepy and some even philosophically call time travel. Amusement would be a small word to describe the reaction of the netizens. You and I are from the same world as Ethiopia is. Ethiopia makes us wonder, if time is actually, just an illusion. What do you think? Well, now many of you will be convinced to visit Ethiopia for a much-needed retreat (Read: time travel). For the ones who aren't, have some other reasons for visiting Ethiopia too. The arid plains, majestic mountains, lush greens, scenic lakes; ask for it and you have it. Let me also mention the majestic, 150ft, Blue Nile Falls for the win. Travel makes us wander and wonder, maybe that’s why we love traveling so much. On to the next destination, as our hearts keep wandering through the timelines. You might be wondering, as of which year are they currently living in? According to the Ethiopian calendar, they are living in the year 2014. #Ethiopia #EthiopianCalendar #SevenYearsBehind #Travel #Explore #TravellingFacts #Africa #EthiopianCulture SEARCH 7 Abandoned Cities In India And Abroad That Are Too Beautiful To Be Forgotten TRAVEL Blue Lagoon – Iceland TRAVEL Palm Islands TRAVEL WORLD PEACE DOME TRAVEL Blood Falls In Antarctica: Explained TRAVEL POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Chiang Mai Is So Unrealistically Magical; And Here Is Why 28 June 2024 TRAVEL By Anushka Sharma Lakshadweep Is A Heaven In Disguise And Here Is Why 3 April 2024 TRAVEL By Anushka Sharma If Uzbekistan Isn’t On Your Travel List, Here Is Exactly Why It Should Be 21 March 2024 TRAVEL By Anushka Sharma The Fashion Capitals Of Asia: Exploring Style Beyond Borders 19 March 2024 TRAVEL RELATED POSTS
