  • Elegance is Everything: How Korean Fashion Has Swept The World

by Rupashree Ravi Elegance is Everything: How Korean Fashion Has Swept The World 1 August 2022 FASHION Advertisement It is no doubt that elegant, comfortable and classy fashion has become the go-to choice for this young and booming generation. Young adults’ interest and fascination towards growing popular cultures are reflected in their music, food, and fashion choices, to name a few. With the Hallyu wave taking over the world by storm, where Korean cultural practices are gaining popularity and increased overseas attention, K-fashion has found itself a loyal and global fanbase. It has become an international phenomenon that has paved its way into the Indian market too. Simply put, K-fashion or Korean fashion is inspired by the global love for K-pop and K-dramas, which at the moment, appears to be at an all-time high in India. It is a fusion of modern fashion with a tweak of conservative style and is quickly becoming a strong fashion statement all across the world. K-fashion, with its Less is More attitude sets its clothing apart from other fashion trends. From baggy pants, and oversized tops to trench coats and tote bags, K-fashion has got you all covered. This is because the sense of style is an aesthetic that is delicate, yet quite distinctive compared to other cultures. It doesn’t scream, rather it is simple yet minimal and classy. Korean boy band BTS has revolutionized the fashion scene in the country. Whether it is the basic colour palettes of muted and pastel colours like beige and grey, Koreans will flaunt their elegance as they go for a formal yet casual style. High-waisted pants and a luxurious blouse complemented with high heels is the most sought-after look for Korean women. Such an outfit is classy and professional at the same time. They wear blazers with sneakers and still look sophisticated, having an element of intricacy. Korean fashion aesthetics are built around one or two prints, instead of vibrant and energetic colours, which are considered to be less fashionable. Some of their iconic trends are slacks, high waist palazzo pants, denim, miniskirts, jumpsuits, suspenders, polo shirts, straight-cut jeans, padded jackets, and playsuits. “Thanks to its vibrant hues and bold colour combinations, Korean fashion has become a living example of how different clothing styles can suit every taste.” Shin Min-a’s fashion in the hit K-drama, Hometown Cha Cha Cha Son Ye-Jin sporting a classy look in Crash Landing On You A major distinction from western fashion is how Koreans reveal their skin. Since showing off skin is not very common in their culture, they choose a part to flaunt while covering up the rest. For instance, if they wear a pair of shorts, they complement it with an elegant blouse for a formal look. Knee or thigh-high long socks are also very common with dresses. Moreover, their use of accessories like handbags and jewellery. Hair accessories like berets, face caps, hairpins and clips complement beautiful hairstyles by adding a unique and personal touch. Even Korean men flaunt these accessories and completely rock their look. K-pop idols Hongjoong, Kai and G-Dragon are well-known for their iconic fashion statements. This fashion trend, thus, stimulates a graceful aura that is discreet and focused on utmost comfort. K-fashion is a major source of inspiration in the fashion world. The trend has just taken off in India as we see a high demand for these clothing styles. However, with rising popularity and interest in Korean culture and fashion, the best of the Hallyu wave is yet to come. #K-fashion #KoreanFashion #BTS #Hallyu #KoreanWave SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dubai Fashion Week Day Five: Emerging Talents, Cultural Heritage, And Global Fashion Dialogues 14 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Marina Ignjat: A Journey Through Style And Travel 13 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Anaya Collection Unveils "Gaudí’s Reverie" At Dubai Fashion Week: A Fusion Of Love, Technique, And Playful Elegance 11 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Hebajasmi Unveils Captivating New Collection For SS25: A Masterpiece Of Art And Fashion 10 September 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS

  • Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix

by Naisargi Devdher Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix 17 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement The beautiful and incredulous singer, Raveena Mehta talks about her journey of becoming a singer and the path of good mental health that can lead one there. This story comes from the very depth of Raveena Mehta's journey as an artist, especially with the Pandemic hitting the world hard. Speaking of which, she mentions, "When the pandemic hit, I lived in my home studio. I have a home set up where I record a lot of my music. I decided to get into a routine to make a cover everyday and worked on composing. This led me to release around 7 songs in 2020 which was a great feeling. It has been incredible to see the way India has digitized over the last two years, an immense amount of technological progress." Speaking of success, it's one of the most beautiful feelings in the entire world; when reality strikes an artist! It just glows over the body and the mind, when the artist makes it big in the industry. However, Raveena does not recollect any such moment where she realized she was going big, but continues to say, "I don't think there was ever such a moment where I realised I was going big, but when I was approached to demo with 'Casanova Acoustic', that felt pretty great! Reality striking was never a daunting thing, reality is also what you make of it and depends on how you are viewing your cup, hopefully always half full. I also believe maintaining a small inner circle is one of the most important things to remain grounded and level headed in a whirlwind of an industry." Raveena is not only successful nationally but recognised for her talent all over the globe, at film festivals and red carpets. Raveena exclaims gratefully, "For artists, it is always incredible to be able to see your work being recognised globally. I find it endearing when my Hindi songs are appreciated in Cannes. When I was there for the Film festival, it felt brilliant to know the music that comes from India is so sought after." Singing soulfully has always reached to the most interior bosom of a being and in doing so, Raveena Mehta has attained incredulous levels of success! "I define success with deriving happiness. I tend to keep myself and my headspace quite process oriented and so I find happiness in smaller, process driven moments. Of course, when I release a song and I can see that people appreciate the music, that most definitely also makes me feel successful. Success for me means earning respect and focusing on my happiness." When the appreciation of fans and people hits, the gaze is difficult to handle. The expectations, the build ups or the love is tedious and risky to respond to! Raveena truly respects all her listeners and fans, understanding that respecting them would earn her respect! "I truly respect all my listeners and fans. I feel blessed to know that people out there listen to and appreciate my music. I try to meet their expectations with my music. I truly feel like as an artist, you have to strike a balance between the things that want to be heard from you and the things you wish to create, remaining authentic and yourself. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere." When the audience speculate rumours, or show disrespect towards the art and the song, many artists feel undervalued. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes and opinions. To this day, in the world, the fear of a song being perceived incorrectly, is tremendous and has the capacity of wrecking one's mental health. Raveena, reflects on both, the expectations of people as well as one's mental health. "In my opinion, music is art and ultimately art is subjective and open to interpretation. To that point, I feel it becomes imperative to try to detach yourself from the work to an extent; so you can allow the work to grow and evolve wholeheartedly. I personally don't think I have ever felt too worried about a song being misinterpreted or misunderstood." Raveena also talks about how one's mental peace is key while working in a creative field. Creating can only be brought forward with a clear mind and peaceful environment. "Mental health is everything. I believe strongly in preserving one's mental sanctity, constantly focusing on self betterment and doing the things that make you the best version of yourself. These are definitely deliberate efforts and as for me, singing and drawing is therapeutic and it definitely helps me remain in touch with myself." Having said that, a lot of discipline is required from one's team as well. Every form of art, including a well produced album requires a strong and disciplined team. Raveena also comments on the same saying, "One annoying trait for me is tardiness, I generally find it annoying especially if it is concerning work for example in the form of a meeting. But hey, I also recognise that Mumbai traffic is also very hectic." Hectic schedules and a demanding creative field, on several instances, can also lead to mind blocks. Raveena adds, "If I ever have a mind block while i’m working, I tend to take some time for myself; I either go for a walk or do something that brings me a lot of peace. I try to disassociate any kind of pressure that is possibly creating a wall between my thoughts and inspiration." This global icon reinforced the importance of being true to herself while retaining the soul of her music and the integrity of her sound. However while acknowledging all of it, she remarked on a very beautiful note, "I find that sometimes in chasing trends, it is very easy to lose the soul of the music. In today's age with reels, tiktok and instant gratification which is equally as important to generating viewership, this can also be a double edged sword. While a lot of today's artists consider trends, it is also important to consider and retain the soul and integrity of your sound." • The Saga Of Saloni And The Rise Of GulaboJaipur

by Anushka Sharma The Saga Of Saloni And The Rise Of GulaboJaipur 8 March 2023 FASHION Advertisement As each year passes, the world meets with more and more wins for women, and our nation is no exception to this phenomenon. From women being able to receive the accolades in various industries to witnessing them being employed in the rural part of India, this Women’s Day, we’re just happy to have come this far. To have reached corners and nooks that this nation has treasured since time immemorial. Narrating a tale as old as time(10 years ago), There once existed a brand that believed in building itself through embracing the heritage and craftsmanship of Rajasthan. It believed in exuding the best of Jaipur in particular, and soared high enough to carve a niche in the hearts of some Bollywood biggies. While the tale doesn’t end here, there’s a lot to catch up on GulaboJaipur . GulaboJaipur is so much more than a successful brand in today’s times. It represents how Saloni, the founder, saw the world of indigenous fashion through rose tinted glasses, and materialized all that she had once envisioned for her brand. If we take it long, long ago, it was Saloni’s mother who believed in her eye for design and gave her the capital to start the business. Needless to say, the capital has been wonderfully utilized and multiplied in paramount ways. GulaboJaipur has been casting its magic over the masses ever since its inception. It’s been 10 years since the brand gained momentum, and beautifully so, hasn’t stopped since. Situated in a region of India which is heavily diverse in beauty, customs and traditions, Saloni wanted to do more than just extract the cultural and aesthetic segment of Rajasthan. Along with curating some beloved pieces which were later cherished by Kareena Kapoor and various other celebrities of taste, she was also empowering the women of Rajasthan by offering them employment. “I try to employ more and more artisans from all parts of Rajasthan, such as Bagru, Sanganer, and many more. Each village in Rajasthan is different and each sub-region defines differences in craftsmanship. I also believe that women can live with more pride if they are financially independent.” - Saloni As something noteworthy that the brand has experienced in these few years, Saloni recalls how she jumped with joy when she had received an email from the Pataudi Palace. The email expressed Kareena Kapoor’s keen interest in shopping for maternity wear from GulaboJaipur . That incident played the role of a good luck charm in the business which later flourished amidst a lot of celebrities. The key-takeaway in this entire process of fashion stardom was how the brand was loved, appreciated and admired for its core values and design. As a brand that has existed for more than ten years, we didn’t expect Saloni to remember much about her very first collection. To our surprise, she has a vivid memory of every scaled-down detail of her first collection, from launching Anarkalis with broad gotta patti to her velvet scarves. If this doesn’t make one believe in the essence of a brand being the founder’s baby, we don’t know what will! Saloni also recalls how GulaboJaipur was earlier marketed and managed in terms of its sales by Saloni’s husband, and he indeed took the business to new, scalable, virtual heights. But do you know what differentiates GulaboJaipur from the multitude of labels that exist out there? Nothing. The sheer beauty of this brand is how it embraces everyday wear with so much grace and grandeur. Saloni puts it perfectly, “I believe in making clothes that are very sadabahar and can be worn anywhere and everywhere.” Well, she clearly has mixed a lot of chic-essence in these Sadabahar attires, and we indeed love every bit of it! Saloni’s saga of the revival of indigenous fashion in the most effortless way possible is worth admiration. Her story inspires and celebrates women on a similar rhythm. While the individuality and confidence with which she reigns her brand teaches us a lot about how it ultimately results in believing in oneself, her success as a fashion designer celebrates how a woman cherished her roots in her work at all times and yet took over the world by a storm! • From The Silver Screen To Human Rights Advocacy With Award Winning Actress Sheena Chohan

By Anushka Sharma From The Silver Screen To Human Rights Advocacy With Award Winning Actress Sheena Chohan 21 August 2024 COVER STORIES Advertisement L’utopia Magazine recently had the pleasure of speaking with the multi-talented Sheena, who has carved a niche for herself in both the Indian and international film industries. With a Cannes accolade, numerous awards, and an inspiring role as the ambassador for United for Human Rights , Sheena’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. In this conversation, she opens up about her experiences, her upcoming projects, and her passion for human rights. How has the journey been for you lately, Sheena? Sheena:It's been incredibly exciting! Recently, I won three awards for my film Amar Prem, which premiered at Cannes and has already garnered about 15 awards. It’s a beautiful short film, an emotional drama about a love triangle, reminiscent of classic stories like Silsila. My role as a devoted wife who discovers her husband’s illness was deeply challenging yet rewarding, and receiving recognition for it has been a dream come true. Your film’s success at Cannes is incredible! How was your experience at the festival? Sheena: Having my film premiere at the main tent at Cannes was surreal. But this year has been non-stop for me. I recently completed my Hollywood debut in a film called Nomad, directed by Taron Lexton, who's now working on a major project with Tom Cruise. Creating characters with such a talented team was a pure collaboration that pushed me to explore my craft in new ways. The international exposure has been amazing, and I’m eager to continue working with passionate directors and storytellers. How does working in Hollywood compare to Bollywood? Are there significant differences? Sheena: The working styles are different, yes. Hollywood tends to be more organized and professional, while Bollywood, though also organized, has its unique, more spontaneous energy. However, the dedication to making impactful cinema is the same in both industries. I believe the lines between Hollywood and Bollywood are blurring, especially with the rise of OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon, which are bringing diverse stories to global audiences. Speaking of OTT platforms, what do you think the future holds for the industry? Sheena: I’m not a trade analyst, so I can’t predict the future, but I’m excited about the opportunities OTT platforms are creating. This year, I’ll be seen in a web series called Bhayava, where I play a she-devil, a role inspired by characters like Maleficent. OTT has opened up space for strong female leads and character-driven stories, which is fantastic for actors like me who crave diverse roles. You’ve also made significant strides as a UN Human Rights Ambassador. Can you share a bit about that journey? Sheena: Absolutely! I’ve been an ambassador for the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights for nearly a decade now. This year, I was honored with the Presidential Award in America, signed by President Biden, for reaching 170 million people with human rights education. My ultimate goal is to make human rights education mandatory in schools across India, as I believe it’s crucial for creating a positive change in society. It’s a cause that I’m deeply passionate about, and I’m committed to using my platform to further this mission. That’s truly inspiring. On the film front, what can we look forward to from you next? Sheena: I am thrilled about my Bollywood debut in Sant Tukaram, a historic biopic directed by Aditya Om, where I play a powerful lead role. It’s a dream project for me, given the depth and intensity of the character. I’ve always dreamed of being an actor since I was two years old, and now, I’m living that dream. You’ve had an impressive journey, training in theater and working across different film industries. What advice would you give to aspiring actors? Sheena:My advice would be simple: Don’t give up. This industry is full of setbacks, rejections, and challenges, but perseverance is key. Also, be professional and committed to your craft. Dedication and commitment can take you a long way, and you never know when your big break might come. Are there any directors you’re particularly eager to work with in the future? Sheena: I admire the work of directors like Anubhav Sinha, Raju Hirani, Shekhar Kapur, and Rajamouli. Each brings something unique to the table, whether it’s drama, comedy, or epic cinema. I’ve been fortunate to work with incredible filmmakers so far, and I look forward to collaborating with more in the future. You’ve worked in both Bollywood and the South Indian film industry. How do the two compare? Sheena: The Southern film industry is more personalized, with a strong emphasis on relationships and a family-like atmosphere on set. Bollywood, on the other hand, operates more like a corporate entity with agencies and PR's involved. But, as I mentioned earlier, the industry is evolving, and there’s a lot of crossover happening now between Bollywood and South Indian cinema. Finally, what kind of stories do you gravitate towards, and what excites you most about your work? Sheena: I love stories that are character-driven, whether it’s drama, comedy, or epic biopics. One of my all-time favorite films is Avatar by James Cameron. I’m particularly drawn to roles that allow me to explore different facets of human emotions and tell relatable stories that resonate with audiences. Through the conversation, it was evident that Sheena is not just an actor but a passionate advocate for human rights, a dreamer who has turned her childhood aspirations into reality, and an artist who continues to seek out meaningful stories to tell. Her journey serves as an inspiration to many, and we eagerly anticipate the next chapter in her remarkable career. • Breakfast – Don’t miss!

by Akash Khatri Breakfast – Don’t miss! 7 July 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement My most favourite meal of the day – BREAKFAST! The first thing out of bed. The fun part: it can include anything, be it fresh orange juice, hot waffles, drooly pancakes with maple syrup, a bowl of cereal with fresh milk, oats garnished with pretty dry fruit, tasty French toast, a warm croissant, crispy bacon, PopTarts, fruits, berries, a slice of perfectly toasted bread, eggs in any form and not forgetting freshly brewed coffee. It sets the mood good for a day. People often skip breakfast in a rush to reach in time, to spend some more time in bed, because they are too tired to bother, they don’t feel hungry, they are bored of the same breakfast every day, or some other excuse, but it’s wrong. It is called the “most important meal of the day” for a reason. Research links eating breakfast to good health. It helps you kick start your metabolism as it is the first meal after you wake up thereby also helping you to burn calories throughout the day. It provides you with the fuel required to get you going through the day and avoids you to binge eat as it controls your appetite. Science has proved that a good breakfast is directly proportional to a better memory. This ‘first meal’ also lowers bad cholesterol levels in our body and prevents a number of other diseases such as diabetes, obesity, etc. A US study that analyzed the health data of 50,000 people over seven years, concluded that those who made breakfast the largest meal of the day had a lower body mass index (BMI) than those who ate a large lunch or dinner. Moreover, it breaks the overnight fasting cycle by replenishing the body with glucose. A healthy breakfast also contains all nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fibre which are very important for our body. Running late? Don’t worry, we’ll help: Prepare a week’s breakfast over the weekend or the night before such as overnight oats, fruit jars or healthy muffins. A pre-prepared breakfast saves you ample of time in the morning and can be picked up on the way to your destination. Try setting your alarm 10-15 minutes prior to your usual time so that you don’t skip breakfast. Figure out what you want to eat for breakfast the night before and set out dry ingredients or pans and bowls you would require so that you save time in the morning. Stock your cupboard with go-to breakfast foods like protein bars, low sugar cereals, smoothies, etc. Keep some breakfast foods in your car or workplace or handbag. According to nutritionists, one should eat breakfast within two hours of waking and it should be in the range of 25-35% of your guideline daily allowance, also known as GDA. A few quick breakfast ideas: Ø Avocado toast with eggs Top a slice of brown or multigrain bread with smashed avocado and a sunny-side-up/fried/baked egg or two sprinkled with some salt and pepper for taste. Ø Pancakes It can be finished with a handful of berries, chopped bananas, spread of peanut butter or chocolate spread or the old maple syrup. Ø The fruit toast My personal favourite, it’s super easy to make. Add your favourite nut butter with some chopped bananas on a toast with a garnish of chia seeds. Ø Fruit bowl The quickest to make. Precut fruits to make it even quicker, mix seasonal fruits together. The fun part- you can just add anything you like. I like to add some quinoa, honey and lemon too. Delicious! Ø Scrambled Mess Break a few eggs in a pan coated with a spray of oil. Add in your favourite veggies to add some colour like onions, chillies and bell peppers. I like to flavour it with some rosemary, thyme and basil leaves. You can also stick to the simpler version by just adding salt and pepper. Ø The overnight overload Take a jar and mix oats, chia seeds, berries of your choice, a dash of vanilla, almond or coconut milk and maple syrup. Refrigerate overnight. You can have it cold or warm it in the microwave for a minute. Add a banana and top it with some dry fruits. Ø Classic Quinoa Cook Quinoa with any kind of milk. Add sugar, cinnamon and cardamom for taste. This dish is high in protein. Ø Peanut butter oat cookies I like to add some semi-sweet chocolate chips for taste. Ø Banana Zucchini muffins I like to substitute all-purpose flour with wheat and butter with coconut oil to make it healthier. Ø Warm waffles Top it with a spoon of chocolate, peanut butter jelly, simply butter or fruits and maple syrup. Ø Simply Smoothies You can never go wrong with them; they are highly fulfilling and filled with proteins. • It’s A New Win For Queen B With A Touch Of Cécred

By Anushka Sharma It’s A New Win For Queen B With A Touch Of Cécred 21 February 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement In the realm of beauty, few names command as much respect and admiration as Beyoncé . From her electrifying performances to her unparalleled influence in fashion, Beyoncé has long been a trailblazer in the entertainment industry. Now, she has added another accolade to her illustrious career with the launch of her own hair care brand, Cécred . Cécred is not just another celebrity-endorsed product line—it's a passion project rooted in Beyoncé's personal journey and heritage. Drawing inspiration from her upbringing in her mother's salon, Beyoncé's vision for Cécred is deeply intertwined with her own experiences and the lessons she learned along the way. That is what makes the brand rooted in one’s reality. "I grew up sweeping hair in my mother's salon. So much of who I am came from there," Beyoncé reflects. "I saw how she transformed hair by mixing mainstream products with textured hair care." With Cécred, Beyoncé aims to honor the traditions of the past while embracing the latest advancements in hair science. The brand's approach is simple yet profound: hair is sacred, and it deserves to be treated as such. Whether your hair is curly, coily, straight, or somewhere in between, Cécred believes that everyone deserves products that are safe, effective, and transformative. "Our Cécred approach is centered around the idea that hair care should be about more than just aesthetics," Beyoncé explains. "It's about nourishing your hair from the inside out, strengthening it, and honoring its natural beauty." Hair care is definitely more than what you see by the naked eye. It is about honing it from within. At the heart of Cécred's philosophy is a commitment to innovation and performance. The brand's products are formulated with a unique blend of rich conditioners, fortifying proteins, and advanced scientific technologies to address the specific needs of textured hair. Whether you're dealing with dryness, breakage, or lackluster strands, Cécred offers solutions that deliver visible results. "We don't just dress hair with cosmetic sheen," Beyoncé declares. "We combine our patent-pending technology with the wisdom and rituals passed down through generations to deliver high-performing formulas for strength, length retention, moisture, and shine." But Cécred is more than just a haircare brand—it's a celebration of self-care and empowerment. By prioritizing the needs of textured hair and challenging the status quo, Beyoncé hopes to inspire others to embrace their natural beauty and prioritize themselves. "Cécred is about prioritizing yourself and all the things you hold sacred," Beyoncé affirms. "It's about celebrating diversity, embracing individuality, and redefining standards of beauty." • Exposing Skin Care Myths Through A Dermatologist

By Anushka Sharma Exposing Skin Care Myths Through A Dermatologist 18 June 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement Are you someone who spends a lot of time on social media, especially looking at skincare trends? I admit I've done that, and sometimes it leads to buying things I don't need. While some trends are good, others might not be so great for your skin. Here are five skincare trends you might have seen online that aren't as helpful as they seem: 1. Flax Seeds for Wrinkles: Have you seen people making masks with flax seeds to tighten their skin? Well, it might make your skin feel nice for a little while, but it's not like getting Botox. Botox actually relaxes certain muscles in your face, while flaxseed masks just hydrate your skin temporarily. 2. Garlic for Pimples: Some folks say eating garlic can clear up acne, but that's not entirely true. Garlic does have some good properties, but it won't magically make your pimples disappear. Using skincare ingredients like salicylic acid and niacinamide is a better bet. 3. Face Flooding for Oily Skin: If you've got oily skin, you might have heard about "face flooding" to give your skin extra moisture. But for some people, it just makes them look sweaty and can even cause more breakouts. It's not a one-size-fits-all solution. 4. Collagen Masks: Those masks that melt into your skin might look cool, but they don't do much for you. Collagen in skincare can't really get absorbed into your skin like that. It might make your skin feel hydrated, but that's about it. 5. SPF Madness: We've all heard that higher SPF means better protection from the sun, right? Well, not necessarily. Too much SPF can make your skin oily, and anything beyond SPF 50 doesn't add much extra protection. Plus, you still need to reapply it often. So, next time you see a skincare trend online, take it with a grain of salt. It's always best to talk to a dermatologist before trying something new on your skin. • The Legacy Of Gold: A Journey Through Time With Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers

By Anushka Sharma The Legacy Of Gold: A Journey Through Time With Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers 19 July 2024 FASHION Advertisement In the very heart of Bihar, a state steeped in the richness of tradition and culture, lies Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers , a family-owned jewellery business that has been passed down through six generations. With a legacy that spans over a century, this jeweller has seen it all - from the rise and fall of empires to the evolution of consumer preferences. Isn’t that a note-worthy, admirable legacy? When asked about the inspiration behind their collections, the jeweller revealed that their focus lies in creating everyday light wear jewellery that caters to the average Indian, with a special emphasis on the rural market. With a price range that starts from a lakh and goes up to 25 lakhs a piece, their jewellery is designed to be worn and treasured for generations to come. They’re deemed as heirloom pieces and cherished by the families through generations. When asked about the typical customer who walks into their store, the jeweller described an average Indian household that comes with a lot of trust and savings, looking for a piece that will hold its value and be cherished for years to come. After all, don’t we love the idea of good jewellery for a beloved’s wedding? Mr. Bhavesh revealed that most of their jewellery is purchased for weddings, gifting, and self-use, with a focus on gold jewellery that holds investment value. When asked about the current trends in the industry, the jeweller noted a resurgence in the demand for gold jewellery, particularly in certain markets. While diamond and Kundan jewellery have gained popularity in recent years, the jeweller believes that gold will always hold its value and remain a preferred choice for Indians. Jewellery and skin tones: When it comes to skin tones and colours, the jeweller explained that yellow gold stands out well on Indian skin, making it a popular choice for the Indian subcontinent. However, for those with a fairer skin tone, rose gold and white gold can be a good option. The jeweller also emphasized the importance of tradition and customs in the Indian jewellery industry, stating that yellow gold will always be the preferred choice due to its cultural significance. Beyond the point of sale, Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers engages with customers through local events, music concerts, and CSR initiatives. With a strong offline presence, Mr Bhavesh believes that trust and legacy are key to their success. When asked about the challenges they faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the jeweller revealed that while it was a difficult time for many jewellers, their business actually saw a surge in sales as people turned to investment opportunities. Is gold a viable option for investment in today’s times? In today's economy, Mr Bhavesh believes that gold is a superb investment option, offering returns of 5% to 6% every year. With a plan to establish an online presence in the next 6 to 9 months, Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers is confident that their legacy will continue to shine for generations to come. Lastly, he also emphasized the importance of education in the jewellery industry, stating that not many brand owners today have a qualification in jewellery. All that one requires is a burning desire for a business of gemstones. Mr Bhavesh has had an impactful qualification to back his career in gemmology though: He has graduated as a gemologist from Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad. Needless to say, with a focus on gold and a commitment to quality, Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers is a true testament to the power of legacy and tradition in the Indian jewellery industry. • Changes in Fashion

by Neha Pande Changes in Fashion 27 July 2020 FASHION Advertisement In the start of the 90’s or before no one would have thought that black women or brown could be on the cover of a magazine like Vogue or a plus size woman would be a leading role model or on the cover of 100’s of billboard but in today’s world it is quite common to have a beautiful black lady gracing the cover of huge magazines or a plus size woman on the billboards of Times Square. When someone like Beverly Johnson, the first Black model to come out on the cover of Vogue in the 1970’s, made it, it was a big deal for everyone. When Ashley Graham, the first plus size model, came on the cover of Vogue in 2015, it took the industry by storm. From then till now the fashion industry has been evolving and changing for the better, it has started to be more inclusive of all, be it different races, sizes, genders or people with skin disorders. The barriers of Fashion have been changing since the humans learnt what Fashion is. In Greece and Rome, plus sized women were termed as goddesses in the 18th Century which later changed to slim and fit women termed as gorgeous. From the corseted waists and large ball gowns of the European Empire to the loose and free flowing bohemian fashion of the 1960’s, all were significant landmarks in the fashion Industry. The 1940’s was the era when World War II was at its peak, men were at the War Zone while women were at work. This era was the era of women wearing boxer pants with buttoned up shirts and padded shoulder blazers. This fashion statement was because women wanted to get into the working arena and they wore more male oriented clothes to show it. The 1950’s ended the world war with all men back into the workforce and women being oppressed back into housework. The fashion of the era was ultra-feminine with a lot of fit and flare which was the brainchild of Christian Dior who introduced fit and flare, slim shoulders unlike the 1940’s, narrow waist and full skirt which was inspired by the Victorian era. The 1960’s was a combined era of Hippie and Bohemian fashion with Spacy and futuristic fashion going neck to neck. The 1960’s was the start of the Northern Cali Hippie Movement with freedom to the extreme. This era had narcotics, drugs, alcohol and prostitution at its peak and it showed in their fashion with free-flowing dresses and bright colours. This era also gave birth to the famous singer and fashion icon Bob Marley. The 1970’s was the era of futuristic fashion which was due to NASA and its moon launch. This era introduced latex to the fashion industry and the fashion here was tight latex skirts or fitted bodycons with a futuristic vibe. It was also the era of Rock and Roll which gave birth to famous bands like Sex Pistols, The Ramous and the Clash and stars like Jimmy Hendrix. This era was also the Disco era which had vibrant and glittery colours contrasting to the Dark colours of the Rock and Roll. The 1980’s was the era of female empowerment and women getting into the workforce, the change in workforce demographics was huge as it showed the significant change and increase of women into various male dominated work fields. The working women of the era wore well fitted pants or pencil skirts with blazers and shirts. This era also gave birth to acid washed and ripped denim. The 1990’s was the era of sports wear like track pants, tank tops, platform sneakers and sporty tops which were rocked by famous people like Sporty Spice of the Spice Girls and Britney Spears. The 2000’s or our era is the era of amalgamation of all fashion from fit and flare of the 50’s to the funky fashion of the 70’s we have it all. We also are creating our own fashion like using matte colours in fashion with no makeup drives. Fashion is a reflection of society, it is not just merely looking pretty, it is much more than that. It is our history and our reflection as beings. From long leaves used as clothing by our early ancestors to the matte fashion of today it is all a part of our history and life. #FashionVogueWomenEraIndustrySkirtIcon SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dubai Fashion Week Day Five: Emerging Talents, Cultural Heritage, And Global Fashion Dialogues 14 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Marina Ignjat: A Journey Through Style And Travel 13 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Anaya Collection Unveils "Gaudí’s Reverie" At Dubai Fashion Week: A Fusion Of Love, Technique, And Playful Elegance 11 September 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Hebajasmi Unveils Captivating New Collection For SS25: A Masterpiece Of Art And Fashion 10 September 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS

  • Genderless Fashion Hits Indian Markets

by Himanshi Sharma Genderless Fashion Hits Indian Markets 15 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement ‘Anytime you are putting barriers in your life, you are limiting yourselves’ - Harry Styles Since the 1970s, gender has been a "social construct." We know that fashion trends vary over time, and the same is true of gender norms. Now that gender fluidity is acknowledged by society, the fashion industry believes it to be fascinating. Fashion has no boundaries. As the name suggests, gender-fluid fashion defies all preconceived notions and infuses people with a fresh sense of self-assurance. Many prominent celebrities and models have already made a remarkable effect on the public by subtly highlighting the fact that ‘it is not gender that should have an impact on one’s wardrobe but it is the comfort and elegance that should prevail.’ Just Vogue-ing It Iconically Harry Styles, an English singer, songwriter, and actor, enraged the crowd with his outfit selection for the Vogue cover. He was the first man to appear on the solo cover of Vogue, therefore he chose an outfit that best complemented him. When questioned, he responded that he has always had a preference for such clothing. He disproved a number of socially built preconceptions with simply a cover. According to him, setting boundaries merely serves to hinder one from experiencing the outside world. His supporters and the fashion industry questioned and discussed his unique clothing style. Is fashion merely clothes, or does it push the boundaries of society by developing broader social convictions? Is a person's gender determined by their clothing? Is a person's gender determined by their clothing? Is the pace of fashion industry trends accelerating to the point where people are unable to follow them? Well, Harry's surprise left his followers speechless. According to him, the clothes he wears just reflect his personal style and fashion preferences and not gender. But what about India? Gender-Fluid Fashion in Indian Markets It would not be wrong if one implies that genderless clothing was mainstream in ancient India. Long kurtas, ear piercings, jewelry, dhottis and sherwanis have been a trend in the past. When one takes a look at the ancient statutes and scriptures, one might notice that all the goddesses have worn dhotis. Furthermore, the rulers in ancient India wore pastel colour kurtas and various layers of exotic jewelry. In bollywood movies like Hritik Roshan’s Jodhaa Akbar, we can see the actor wearing beautiful jewelry with pastel green kurtas. India, being home to numerous forms of classical dances has seen the costumes being confined to the dance forms with the well complement anklets rather than gender. The Great Fat Indian Weddings have also seen men choosing lighter and pastel colours. Men have always played safe but since the society has been changing, their choices have been evolving over time. Bollywood Dhamaka Desi Boyz and Desi Girls in bollywood have proven to be a dhamaka by seizing the hearts of their fans with genderless clothing. Tamannah Bhatia A Tollywood- Bollywood actress who left a mark on her fans after she wore a stunning brown pant suit to Cannes Festival. As the main component of the cultural fabric with an estimated 1.4 billion viewers, Bollywood has been crucial in influencing people's opinions. The definition of a genderless, comfy dress style among young people today has been impacted, directly or indirectly, by Bollywood celebrities. Influential Influencers With the ongoing Metaverse, prominent apps such as Snapchat have featured the Bitmoji concept for quite some time. Not only do these bitmojis mimic the user of the app, but the user may also dress them. Due to the extreme genderless fashion influence, many users dress their bitmojis in a way that would make them feel good about themselves.
