Dubai Fashion Week’s AW25/26 day one kicked off on Saturday, 4 February and will continue till February 8 with show-stopping looks and contemporary trends, featuring Dubai-based labels like Zeena Zaki, Angelo Estera and Manel, as well as Indonesian label Toton, each bringing a unique perspective to the runway.
Zeenka Zaki: A Visionary
Zeena Zaki kicked off her show with pure confidence and elegance. Inspired by the spiral, a symbol she kept noticing in her daily life and dreams, she brought it to life on the runway. Think flowing gowns, sharp silhouettes and bold colours, all coming together in a collection that proved once again why she’s a force in MENA fashion.
The collection featured soft and traditional feminine silhouettes with fluid shapes and dynamic palettes with details like twisted knots around the waist, heart-shaped necklines, ruffles and the models’ wet hair strands that were fixed in winding shapes down their faces.
Zaki’s collection is a masterclass when it comes to storytelling and narratives, where each piece unfolds like a new chapter. The display showcased a visual journey which began from dark, structured silhouettes to softer, ethereal designs symbolizing resilience and renewal. Contrasting elements, like sleek black dresses and fluid pastels, mirror personal growth, while the suspenseful soundtrack enhances the storytelling. Through emotion, symbolism and creative progression, Zaki’s designs go beyond fashion, creating a compelling narrative of empowerment and rebirth.
Toton: Sustainability Meets Tradition
Revealing a collection that brought together fashion, sustainability and celebration of heritage, womenswear brand TOTON, presented by Makeover Indonesia, collaborated with Batik artists from Tuban and Cirebon. The collection showcased handcrafted Batik prints with modern cuts and contemporary textures. The clothing integrated upcycled fabrics and novel textiles such as paper clay, echoing the brand’s commitment to environmental consciousness. The collection aimed to address global issues with pieces that celebrate ancient craftsmanship with a modern take.
Manel: Parisian Elegance With A Dubai Twist
Manel Aboudaoud, the name behind the Dubai-based label MANEL, made her debut at DWF. Titled the ‘Paris Day to Night’ collection, Aboudaoud drew from both her Arabian heritage and childhood in Paris to unveil a collection of sophisticated gowns. Fusing the grandeur of Arab shapes with quintessential French accents such as Chantilly lace, satin and velvet, Aboudaoud’s collection was a victorious coming out and a testament to the designer’s technical skilfulness.
Angelo Estera: A Tribute To The Silk Road
Dubai-based brand Angelo Estera delivered a breathtaking showcase inspired by the designer’s journey through Moscow and the historic Silk Road. The palette included deep reds, bold golds and striking blacks. In fact, dramatic silhouettes took centre stage! Think voluminous skirts, sculpted bodices and intricate crystal embellishments adorning shoulders, cuffs and corsets.
Every detail felt like a tribute to the luxury and cultural exchange of the past, woven into couture. The grand finale? A show-stopping gown—ornate, regal, and covered in intricate beadwork, bringing history to life. Angelo Estera didn’t just put on a show; he told a story of luxury, heritage, and timeless style.
